What you will do

Within Defence, we want to offer every employee the best possible medical care. That is why we have an extensive Healthcare Organisation, with our own (dentists), nurses, physiotherapists, and pharmacists.

As a military dentist, you are responsible for dental care at the barracks and during operational deployment. In the Netherlands, you will work in a military dental centre (usually with multiple chairs) at a barracks. These centres are being transformed into modern, well-equipped practices in the coming years. During an deployment, you will be responsible for all oral healthcare, where surgical procedures will also regularly be necessary.

Where you will work

After your appointment, you will follow the officer training for specialists provided by the Netherlands Defence Academy at the KMA in Breda. In this ten-week training, you will be prepared for working in difficult circumstances, such as deployment. You will learn basic military skills such as shooting, drill, map reading, and military first aid. In addition, there are regular field exercises and you will take courses like military law. During the officer training, you will live on the grounds of the Royal Military Academy in Breda.

After completing the officer training, you will work in one of the Dental centres of the Defence Dental Service in the country. You will also participate in exercises and, like every soldier, you must take into account that you may be deployed. In this centre, there are also oral health professionals, prevention assistants, and dental assistants working. Within the Defence Dental Service, there are various opportunities for self-development. This includes following training courses and specialisations and attending seminars within your field. The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organisational reasons.
