Job description
Introduction
Are you trained as an operating room assistant and looking for a varied job with a unique employer? Do you want to use your medical care talents for peace and security? Then apply as an Officer Operating Room Assistant at the Institute for Cooperation between Defense and Relationship Hospitals. There you can work in civilian healthcare and can be deployed during military exercises and missions.
What you will do
At Defense, we want to offer every employee the best medical care. That is why we have an extensive healthcare organization. Part of this is the Institute for Cooperation between Defense and Relationship Hospitals (IDR). The IDR coordinates the cooperation between Defense and the 14 so-called relationship hospitals and ensures the availability of surgical teams for military deployment. As an Officer Operating Room Assistant, you will be part of the operating room team in the relationship hospital, responsible for the smooth running of an operation. But the Officer Operating Room Assistant is active in two worlds; in addition to working in one of the relationship hospitals, you are also available for military deployment such as exercises and missions.
During exercises and on missions, you can be deployed in various locations, for example, on board a naval ship. You always work with a multidisciplinary team. You might be working in a well-equipped hospital or in an improvised environment with (very) limited resources.
In addition to hard (technical) skills, it is important that you possess a number of additional competencies. In your role as Officer Operating Room Assistant, you are someone the entire OR team and the patient can rely on, anywhere in the world, under all circumstances!
Additionally, you play an active role in your military professional group and broaden your professional network at meetings and symposia. You maintain your military basic skills and complete the fitness test annually.
PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION
- Salary: your gross base salary, with allowances and our favorable travel expenses, pension, and health insurance scheme, will result in a pleasant net surprise.
- Work atmosphere: nowhere will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as at Defense.
- Working in two worlds, both in a civilian hospital with top clinical care and in a military medical facility, anywhere in the world.
- Development opportunities: Defense is not only an employer but also a large training institute, where you can follow training to grow personally and professionally.
Note: There are different start dates throughout the year. After applying, you will receive a personal application file, which includes a call-up date. Please note: this is a fictional date and therefore incorrect. The start date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the fitness test, the psychological assessment, the medical examination, and the security screening that are part of the application process. Once all these parts have been successfully completed, your start date will be discussed and confirmed.
Where you will work
Defense collaborates with 14 relationship hospitals. For an appointment with the Royal Navy, these are the following locations: UMCG Groningen, AUMC Amsterdam, NW Ziekenhuisgroep Alkmaar, and LUMC Leiden.
Before you start, you will first complete the 10-week specialist training at the Royal Naval Institute in Den Helder. There is no specific Vocational Technical Training (VTO), but there are several courses you must complete before being deployed.
