What you will do

As a Meteorologist Officer in the Air Force, you will support the operations of the armed forces with your analysis of the day's weather. You will start as a Metbriefer at one of the Air Force's airbases. You will also make specific forecasts for all of Defense (Special Forces, Military Police, or Defense Paratrooper School).

In a subsequent role, you will make forecasts for multiple days ahead, for all types of exercises and operations of Defense, anywhere in the world. You will be assisted by the most experienced meteorologists within the armed forces: the Guidance Meteorologists. They analyze the calculations of the meteorological computer models and provide you with information about possible weather scenarios for the coming days.

Where you will work

You will work as a Metbriefer at one of Defense's airbases. You will participate in exercises and must take into account that you may be deployed.

But before you start, you will follow the four-year Military Scientific Education (MWO) at the Royal Military Academy in Breda, followed by a Technical Vocational Training (VTO). This Technical Vocational Training consists of two parts: the training to become a MetBriefer (6-7 months) in Woensdrecht and the On-the-Job Training (4 months). After successfully completing your training, you will immediately begin your career as a Meteorologist Officer in the Air Force.

After your training, you will start in the challenging position of Meteorologist Officer, as a Metbriefer at one of the Air Force's airbases. After a few years, you can become a Basic Meteorologist at the Joint Meteorological Group (JMG) in Woensdrecht. You will then support the Metbriefers with your ideas about the day's weather in the country and you will make specific forecasts for the Air Force. Do you want to advance? As a Guidance Meteorologist, you will analyze meteorological computer models and provide your team with information. Who knows, you might even become an Account Manager in the future. You will then visit airbases and other operational users within your account. You can also teach, for example, pilots or future fellow forecasters.
