Air Combat Control Officer (HAVO-WO)

Introduction

Do you want to safely guide our aircraft through the sky from the ground, or direct our F-35s towards a potential air combat? Then discover the challenging role of Air Combat Control Officer at Defense. Together with your team, you will be responsible within the Air Force for the surveillance and security of NATO and Dutch airspace.

What you will do

Within air combat control, there are two directions: Air Surveillance and Fighter Controller. As an Air Combat Control Officer within Air Surveillance, you will watch over the Dutch part of NATO airspace. You will ensure a reliable air picture and exchange important information with neighboring countries. You are constantly looking for aircraft that need to identify themselves. Do you not trust a situation? Then you will involve the Fighter Controller. As a Fighter Controller, you, in turn, ensure that two fighter aircraft are immediately guided to a suspicious situation. You will also guide the training of fighter pilots and coordinate large-scale air combat. In short: two serious directions, in which you perform tasks that are of vital importance. Where you will work

You will be working at the Air Operations and Control Station (AOCS) in Nieuw-Milligen and will also sometimes go abroad for exercises and deployments.

As an Air Combat Control Officer, you will watch over the safety of the airspace. Your main task is to guide aircraft to their destination. When you grow, you will lead a team. You will direct this team and are also responsible for everything that happens on the work floor. Throughout your career, there are many opportunities to gain experience abroad, work on the AWACS (radar aircraft) for a while, or to grow within the Air Force.
