What you will do

Military personnel need crucial information for their missions, ranging from data about belligerents and weapons to the political situation in crisis areas and the movements of refugees. This intelligence is indispensable for mission planning and must be carefully protected. At the same time, it is important that our people and assets are secured against threats. The measures for this fall under the domain of security.

Within the field of Intelligence and Security (I&S), you will work in one of these directions, with the possibility of switching specializations later.

Intelligence Officer

As an Intelligence Officer in the Air Force, you will lead an I&S team that plays a crucial role in the preparation and execution of missions. You understand what information is needed, for example, about the adversary, and assess all factors that influence an operation. You share these findings with the commander and the operational teams.

After the mission, you will conduct debriefings to gather valuable intelligence. You will combine the team's experiences with data from sensors, such as those from aircraft. You will closely monitor all changes in the enemy picture and report them until the last moment.

In addition, you will constantly monitor possible threats and advise the commander on how they can be effectively addressed. Whether it is peacetime, exercise, or deployment, you are an indispensable source of knowledge and advice on intelligence and security. Your expertise extends from politico-military analyses to the technical capabilities of weapon systems.

Security Officer

As a Security Officer in the Air Force, you will ensure a secure environment in which weapon systems, infrastructure, personnel, and information systems remain reliable. You will contribute to the Air Force by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of people and assets.

You will be the central point of contact for integrated security and will prepare threat assessments and security advice. In some cases, you will lead a section responsible for defense security policy, such as the security of the F-35 and other programs.

As an Information Security Officer, you will focus on protecting critical information systems. You will ensure that sensitive information is safe, data is reliable, and that systems are always available. With security measures and monitoring, you will contribute to the digital security of operations.

You will lead security personnel and be responsible for the reliability of personnel, material, and information at an airbase. This includes analyzing threat risks, advising the commander, and promoting security awareness. You will collaborate with various departments and form an essential link in the security network.

Where you will work

You are applying for one of the two directions within the field of Intelligence or Security. Your starting position will be determined prior to your Vocational Technical Training (VTO). For your starting position, you may end up at an airbase such as Leeuwarden, Volkel, Gilze-Rijen, or Eindhoven, or work at Defense-wide units such as the Joint Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance Command (JISTARC) or the Defense Ground-Based Air Defence Command (DGLC). The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) currently does not have starting positions.
