Imagine: with a BOXER or CV90, you are brought to the scene of action to engage in combat on foot or combined with BOXER/CV90 on the ground. The terrain is confusing, but that doesn't stop you from taking leadership of your platoon. With a completed VWO diploma, this scenario can become a reality if you apply for the exciting, leadership position of Infantry Officer in the Army.

What you will do

The Infantry is responsible for conducting actual combat. Motorized infantry soldiers are deployed with their own lightly armored wheeled vehicles, the BOXER. Mechanized infantry soldiers are deployed with their own heavily armored tracked vehicles with a onboard cannon, the CV90.

As an Infantry Officer in the Army, you will be in the midst of all the action. You will lead a platoon of approximately 40 soldiers who conduct ground combat. In addition to soldiers, your platoon includes BOXERS or CV90s.

Your responsibilities include planning, executing, and evaluating missions and guiding your platoon socially, tactically, and technically. It can happen that you are together for months, sometimes 24 hours a day, and work under extreme or harsh conditions. Therefore, you are also responsible for the training and development of your soldiers. You motivate and encourage them under all imaginable circumstances.

Where you will work

As an Infantry Officer, you will work in a leadership position as a platoon commander at 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte or 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot. You will contribute to infantry tasks: at the barracks, during exercises, and during deployment.

Before you start working, you will first complete the Military Scientific Education at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) of the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) in Breda, followed by the Technical Training (VTO) at the Maneuver School in Amersfoort.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Training.

As an Infantry Officer, you will start as a platoon commander at 11 Air Assault Brigade in Schaarsbergen or Assen, 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte, or 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot. After your initial role, you can advance to follow-up positions at higher levels, generally within the Infantry. In the future, as an officer, you can also grow into more general leadership, advisory, and management functions that are necessary for the direction of Defense in general and the Royal Netherlands Army in particular.
