Job description
Introductory text
Are you particularly interested in healthcare and do you want to develop your leadership qualities? Do you have (almost) a VWO diploma and are you looking for a study focused on logistics and management? As a Medical Service Officer, you will lead a medical platoon of approximately fifty people. They are responsible for the medical care of Army personnel.
What you will do
Medical care within the Army differs significantly from that in ‘civilian’ society. During exercises and deployments, for example, a medical unit builds a complete infirmary with operating rooms, treatment rooms, and intensive care units. And sometimes you have to do your work under difficult conditions: in freezing cold, extreme heat, or pitch darkness.
As a leader, you will assess your personnel and coordinate and control the activities within your platoon. In addition, you will act as a special staff officer for a unit and advise on the deployment of aid post teams and casualty transport. You will monitor the medical operational readiness of your personnel and ensure their training.
PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION
- Salary: your gross base salary, through allowances and our favorable travel expenses, pension, and health insurance schemes, will result in a pleasant net surprise.
- Work atmosphere: nowhere will you be part of such a close-knit team of colleagues as at the Ministry of Defence.
- Growth opportunities: the Ministry of Defence is, in addition to being an employer, also a large training institute where you can follow courses to grow personally and professionally.
Where you will work
As a Medical Service Officer, after your training, you will start in a leadership position as a platoon commander at the medical battalion in Ermelo or as a deputy platoon commander at a medical company in Havelte, Schaarsbergen, or Oirschot. You will thus contribute to the tasks of the medical service: at the barracks, during exercises, and during deployments.
Before you start working, you will first complete the Military Scientific Education at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) of the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) in Breda, followed by a Technical Vocational Training (VTO) at the Defence Healthcare Training and Education Centre in Hilversum.
The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Vocational Training.
NOTE: This vacancy is for the start date of August 30, 2027, in Breda
