Medical Service Officer (VWO)

Does healthcare particularly appeal to you and do you want to develop your leadership qualities? Do you have (almost) a VWO diploma and are you looking for a study program focused on logistics and management? As a Medical Service Officer, you will lead a medical platoon of approximately fifty people. They are responsible for the medical care of Army personnel.

As a Medical Service Officer, after your training, you will start in a leadership position as a platoon commander at the medical battalion in Ermelo or as a deputy platoon commander at a medical company in Havelte, Schaarsbergen, or Oirschot. You will thus contribute to the tasks of the medical service: at the barracks, during exercises, and during deployments.

Before you start working, you will first follow the Military Scientific Education at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) of the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA) in Breda, followed by a Technical Vocational Training (VTO) at the Defence Healthcare Education and Training Center in Hilversum.

The Royal Netherlands Army takes your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement during the Technical Vocational Training.

As a Medical Service Officer, you will start as a platoon commander at the medical battalion in Ermelo or as a deputy platoon commander at a medical company in Havelte, Schaarsbergen, or Oirschot. After your initial role, you can advance to subsequent positions at higher levels, generally within the Medical Service or within Logistics. In the future, as an officer, you can also grow into more general leadership, advisory, and management functions that are necessary for the command of Defence in general and the Royal Netherlands Army in particular.
