What you will do

Cavalry is traditionally the name for soldiers who moved on horseback. Nowadays, they do so with armed tanks, (armored) wheeled vehicles, and on foot.

The Dutch Defense currently uses German tanks manned by Dutch soldiers. As an Officer Cavalry Tank Germany, you will work as a platoon commander within 414 Panzerbataillon in Bergen-Hohne (Germany). Here you will be responsible for the operational readiness of your personnel and materiel. In consultation with your successive platoon commander, you will handle the planning and execution of assignments, as well as lessons and training programs. Additionally, you will take care of personnel and logistical matters, and intelligence and security within the tank platoon. You will participate in exercises with the tank platoon, attend briefings and meetings, and ensure the proper maintenance of the provided materiel. You will thus contribute to the tasks of the cavalry tank: at the barracks, during exercises, and during deployment.

Where you will work

As an Officer Cavalry Tank Germany, after your training, you will start in a leadership role as a platoon commander in the Dutch tank squadron of the German 414 Panzerbataillon in Bergen-Hohne (Germany).

Before you start working, you will first follow the Military Scientific Training (MWO), followed by the Technical Training. It is possible that both the Military Scientific Training (MWO) and the Technical Training will be given entirely or partly in Germany at a German training institute in, for example, Dresden and/or Munster. Here you will attend classes with German (aspiring) officers and the language of instruction will be German.

The Royal Netherlands Army will take your placement preference into account, but may deviate from the initial placement preference for organizational reasons. The Royal Netherlands Army will inform you about your actual placement for the Technical Training.
