The Defense Healthcare Organization consists of several entities, each making a specific contribution to military healthcare. These entities serve all defense components.

Military Mental Healthcare (MGGZ) is part of the Defense Healthcare Organization Division and provides both generalist basic mental healthcare and specialized mental healthcare to active-duty military personnel of the Defense and to post-active veterans. The MGGZ has approximately 130 employees spread across 4 regional centers, a psychiatric clinic, and an expertise center. The MGGZ staff is housed in Utrecht; the regional centers are located in Utrecht, Zwolle, Amsterdam, and Den Bosch. The emphasis within the MGGZ is on outpatient activities, day treatments, and short-term admissions. Additionally, the MGGZ plays an important role in preparation for deployments, as well as in care during and after deployments in a curative and preventive capacity.

This is what you will do

You will start with a 10-week specialist training at the Royal Military Academy in Breda. Working at the Defense means working within a unique organization, where you, as a basic psychologist, fulfill an important role. Your work directly contributes to the deployability of our military personnel and thus indirectly to a safe society.

As a basic psychologist, you have a versatile function. Under the responsibility of a lead therapist, you conduct intake interviews, perform psychodiagnostic research, and provide various treatments. Additionally, you give lectures and training sessions, for example, on the impact of stress on the functioning of military personnel. MGGZ psychologists also support adaptation processes to ensure a smooth transition from the deployment area to the home environment.
