Introductory Text
Does coordinating appeal to you particularly? Are you adventurous and do you want to contribute to peace & security as a leader? And have you (almost) obtained your VWO diploma? Then 'Artillery Officer' is for you! As an Artillery Officer, you will become part of the department that supports combat units by firing shells over long distances. What you will do
As an Artillery Officer in the Army, you will work in the Artillery Unit department, which supports combat units by firing shells over long distances. As an Artillery Officer, you can end up in various positions, with all sorts of units and at all levels. For example, as a platoon commander or as a forward observer. As a platoon commander, you will lead a gun platoon of 30 men. You will be responsible for the deployability of your platoon, ensure the proper training and development of your personnel, take care of personnel and logistical matters, and you will provide the correct fire support during exercises or deployments.
As a Forward Observer, you will work within a Fire Support Team (FST), assigned to a combat unit. You will continuously observe the battlefield, and planning, coordinating, and deploying fire support are among your tasks. You are the ground fire support specialist and the primary advisor to the commander of the combat unit.
