What you will do

At the Ministry of Defence, we want to offer every employee the best medical care. That is why we have an extensive healthcare organization. Part of this is the Institute for Cooperation Defense and Relationship Hospitals (IDR). The IDR coordinates the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the 14 so-called relationship hospitals and ensures the availability of surgical teams for military deployment. As an Officer Anesthesia Assistant, you will be part of the operating team at the relationship hospital, which is responsible for the smooth running of an operation. As an Officer Anesthesia Assistant, you are active in two worlds: besides working in one of the relationship hospitals, you are also available for military deployment such as exercises and missions.

During exercises and missions, you can be deployed in various locations, for example in a field hospital. You always work with a multidisciplinary team. It may be that you will work in a well-equipped hospital, but also in an improvised environment with (very) limited resources. Adaptability is essential!

In addition to hard (technical) skills, it is important that you possess a number of additional competencies. In your role as Officer Anesthesia Assistant, you are someone the anesthesiologist, the operating room team, and the patient can rely on, anywhere in the world, under all circumstances!

In addition, you will play an active role in your military professional group and broaden your professional network at meetings and symposia. You will maintain your military basic skills and take the fitness test annually.

This depends, among other things, on the results of the fitness test, the psychological examination, the medical examination, and the security investigation, which are part of the application process. Once all these components have been successfully completed, your start date will be discussed and confirmed.

Where you will work

The Ministry of Defence has a collaboration with 14 relationship hospitals, and there is a vacancy for the Royal Netherlands Army for the Officer Anesthesia Assistant at the University Medical Center Utrecht.

Before you start working, you will first follow the 10-week specialist training at the Royal Military Academy (KMA) in Breda. There is no specific Technical Vocational Training (VTO), but there are various courses you must complete before you go on deployment.
