Occupational Therapist – Wellington Based Palliative Care

We are partnering with a well-established specialist palliative care service in the Wellington region that provides holistic, patient and whānau-focused support across home and inpatient settings. This is a meaningful opportunity to join a well-integrated multidisciplinary team, supporting people living with life-limiting illness to maintain independence, dignity, and engagement in everyday occupations across the full continuum of “living with dying”. About the Role As an Occupational Therapist, you will be part of a dynamic team that provides comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and intervention for individuals and their whānau. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans that promote optimal health outcomes and quality of life. Key responsibilities include: • Conducting comprehensive occupational therapy assessments to identify strengths, challenges, and goals for patients and their whānau. • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, whānau, and other healthcare professionals. • Providing evidence-based interventions to support patients’ independence, dignity, and engagement in everyday occupations. • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans that promote optimal health outcomes and quality of life. • Participating in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in occupational therapy and palliative care. • Maintaining accurate and timely records of patient assessments, treatment plans, and interventions. • Contributing to the development and implementation of service-level policies and procedures. • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality patient care. • Working collaboratively with patients, whānau, and other healthcare professionals to provide person-centered care. • Maintaining a commitment to cultural safety and responsiveness in all interactions with patients and their whānau. • Participating in service-level meetings and contributing to the development of service-level policies and procedures. • Maintaining accurate and timely records of patient assessments, treatment plans, and interventions. The ideal candidate will have: • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution. • Current registration with the New Zealand Occupational Therapy Board (NZOTB). • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, whānau, and other healthcare professionals. • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop and implement effective treatment plans. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries. • A commitment to cultural safety and responsiveness in all interactions with patients and their whānau. • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as required.
