As a Network Engineer (m/f/d) at FlixTrain, you are responsible for the technology that determines how our passengers are connected on board, navigate, and experience every journey - from Wi-Fi and network infrastructure to on-board units and mobile devices for our train personnel. As part of the Product Development team in Rolling Stock & Maintenance, you will ensure that our on-board hardware enables an outstanding travel experience for our passengers, smooth operations, and a good working environment for our train personnel. Your work directly influences how FlixTrain stays ahead in the competition for on-board connectivity and delivers reliable, high-quality travel experiences. You will work closely with Operations, Customer Product, and FlixTech, as well as with external partners such as Talgo, ECMs, and suppliers (e.g., Icomera, Advantech).

About the Role

• You are responsible for the entire on-board technology ecosystem of FlixTrain - Wi-Fi, networks, on-board units, and mobile devices - and you never settle for the status quo.
• As the central technical point of contact for all on-board systems, you evaluate specifications, weigh trade-offs, and make well-founded, reasoned decisions.
• You continuously monitor the performance of our on-board technology, identify problems early, and drive improvements that make every journey smoother.
• You will independently lead cross-functional projects related to connectivity, network performance, and the integration of mobile devices into the vehicle fleet, with a clear focus on impact.
• You define technical specifications and network architectures that are ambitious yet achievable and ensure seamless interfaces with our vehicle fleet.
• You develop test scenarios and functional validations - especially at the critical interface with customers and certification bodies - thereby ensuring that our solutions function in real-world operation.
• You keep an eye on new technologies like 5G, IoT, and Starlink and translate your findings into concrete recommendations for FlixTrain's technology roadmap.

About You

• You have a completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• You impress with more than two years of practical experience in network architecture, Wi-Fi systems, or mobile device management - ideally in the context of rail vehicles or a comparably complex technical environment.
• You are characterized by strong problem-solving skills, as well as proven experience in troubleshooting complex network systems under time pressure.
• You enjoy taking responsibility: You independently bring topics to completion and confidently lead cross-functional initiatives with people from different teams and disciplines.
• You communicate clearly and persuasively with both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders without losing precision.
• You have fluent German and English skills, as you work in an international team and collaborate with German-speaking suppliers and authorities.
• Experience with rail vehicle system suppliers and familiarity with the contractual, technical, and regulatory environment of the railway industry are advantageous.
