Job description

  • Client: Ministry of Defence

  • Organizational unit: COMMIT – JIVC – KMar

  • Location: Kromhout Barracks (2 days a week) & remote/Utrecht

  • Start date: 2 February 2026

  • Duration: 12 months, with option for extension

  • Hours per week: 32 – 38 hours

  • Hourly rate: € 85 – € 100 per hour (excl. VAT)

Background of the assignment

The Ministry of Defence – Royal Marechaussee is seeking an experienced Infra Architect Windows who plays a key role in designing, optimizing, and future-proofing ICT environments. The department is in an advanced stage of professionalization, which requires extra flexibility, analytical ability, and entrepreneurship.

The Infra Architect works within a multidisciplinary service team responsible for information provision and IT of the KMar. The environment consists of both on-premise and private cloud solutions and is managed in an Agile/Scrum workflow.

The service team is part of the Joint IV Commando (JIVC), the central IT provider of Defence, which falls under COMMIT and has approximately 6,500 employees.

Purpose of the assignment

To define and realize future-proof infrastructure designs that align with the strategic needs of Defence, with explicit attention to manageability, scalability, automation, and security-by-design.

Description of the task

The Infra Architect Windows operates with a broad accountability and translates organizational and technical requirements into robust ICT architectures. This takes into account existing platforms, legacy environments, and new technological developments.

The candidate will also function as the first point of contact and coach for system administrators and DevOps engineers and provide content-related support in complex incidents. Participation in consignation services is part of the task.

Tasks

  • Plan, design, and integrate ICT system components (hardware, software, and services)

  • Design, integrate, and implement complex infrastructure solutions according to established standards

  • Lead and/or execute system integration

  • Integrate security by design in all designs

  • Analyze technical and business requirements

  • Develop and maintain usability requirements

  • Signal and apply relevant technological developments

  • Provide technical leadership

  • Guide and coach colleagues within management and DevOps

Requirements (knock-out criteria)

The offered candidate possesses:

  • Relevant work experience as a Senior Administrator

  • A HBO diploma (Informatics, Computer Technology, Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications) or demonstrated HBO work and thinking level

  • Relevant work experience as an Architect/Infra Architect

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting on the Windows platform

  • Experience with automating application deployments

  • Knowledge of market-compliant security concepts and methods

  • Experience in guiding and coaching colleagues

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), focused on advising management, project teams, and architects
