On behalf of an international biopharmaceutical company strongly focused on research and innovation, Pharma Point is seeking a:


MSL Manager – Italy


The selected individual will be responsible for leading the Italian Medical Science Liaison team, ensuring their professional development, effectiveness in the territory, and the quality of scientific interactions with the medical-scientific community.

Reporting directly to the Country Medical Director, the MSL Manager will contribute to the definition and implementation of the Field Medical strategy in Italy, combining people management, scientific leadership, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities.

The role involves close collaboration with the Medical Affairs team and key company functions, contributing to the definition of scientific priorities, the development of relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and Healthcare Professionals, and the execution of key Medical projects in Italy.


Main Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Field Medical Strategy

  • Lead and develop the Italian MSL team, creating a work environment focused on collaboration, accountability, and the achievement of high-quality standards.
  • Translate Medical Affairs strategy priorities into operational objectives and plans for the Field Medical team.
  • Define team priorities, objectives, and working methods, ensuring effective planning of activities in the territory.
  • Monitor the progress of activities and key performance indicators, identifying areas for improvement and corrective actions.
  • Support MSLs through coaching and mentoring, fostering their scientific, relational, and professional development.
  • Identify team development needs and contribute to talent development and succession planning.
  • Manage, when necessary, the selection, integration, and onboarding processes for new MSLs.
  • Ensure constant alignment with the Country Medical Director and Medical leadership.
  • Foster effective collaboration between the MSL team and various company functions, maintaining a clear distinction between scientific and promotional activities.
  • Share updates, insights, and relevant information from field activities with the Medical Director.


Medical & Scientific Leadership

  • Act as a scientific reference point for the MSL team and internal stakeholders in the therapeutic areas of expertise.
  • Ensure high-quality scientific interaction with Healthcare Professionals and Key Opinion Leaders, providing accurate, up-to-date, balanced, and evidence-based information.
  • Support the development and consolidation of relationships with key scientific experts at national and regional levels.
  • Facilitate the collection and interpretation of medical insights from the field, contributing to the definition of Medical priorities.
  • Participate in congresses, advisory boards, scientific meetings, and national and international events.
  • Contribute to the planning and management of Medical Affairs projects, scientific collaborations, research activities, and other relevant initiatives.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge on the scientific and clinical evolution of reference therapeutic areas and the competitive landscape.
  • Ensure that all interactions with the medical-scientific community occur in a non-promotional manner and in compliance with current regulations.
  • Operate in accordance with Good Clinical Practice, company procedures, and applicable ethical and regulatory standards.


Candidate Profile

  • Degree in scientific, medical, or related disciplines.
  • Solid scientific background and ability to engage in high-level discussions with Healthcare Professionals and Key Opinion Leaders.
  • Significant experience gained in Medical Affairs.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Science Liaison strongly preferred.
  • Experience in biotech companies, specialty pharma, and/or rare diseases considered particularly relevant.
  • Previous people management or team coordination experience preferred.
  • Consolidated experience in managing relationships with KOLs and in conducting medical education activities.
  • Experience in clinical research, investigator-sponsored studies, patient recruitment, or clinical research projects considered a plus.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate complex scientific and clinical data clearly and effectively.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people development skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage diverse stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to operate effectively in international, matrix organizations characterized by strong cross-functional collaboration.
  • Decision-making autonomy, prioritization skills, and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian and English, both written and spoken.
  • High attention to ethical, scientific, regulatory, and compliance aspects.


Position and Compensation

Indicative Gross Annual Salary: €95,000 – €130,000

The position and economic offer will be defined based on the experience, skills, and seniority of the selected candidate.
