Job description
Digitization is your passion and you are passionate about sustainability?
Then shape the digital transformation of the recycling industry with us!
The Eggersmann Group is an internationally active group of companies with over 50 years of experience in environmental technologies and more than 1,300 employees worldwide.
As a leading provider of recycling plants and machines, we are driving forward future-oriented solutions for a functioning circular economy.
To fully exploit the potential of digitization and automation in the recycling industry, we have founded our digital innovation hub in Aachen as a corporate start-up. With the ESA app, our modular IIoT software, we optimize the operation of recycling plants and machines through data analysis and machine learning.
Your Mission:
You make machine learning production-ready: You develop scalable data and model pipelines on AWS and reliably put machine learning models into operation. Your focus is on anomaly detection in time series data from recycling plants. This way, you contribute to making deviations visible at an early stage and improving plant operation based on data – from the technical infrastructure to ongoing model operation.
Your Tasks:
- You are responsible for the conception, development, operation, and continuous further development of scalable data and model pipelines on AWS, for example with EC2, Lambda, S3, and CloudWatch.
- You put machine learning models into productive use and further develop the existing processes for this – from deployment and monitoring to AutoML-supported retraining and CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- You design data models, write efficient SQL queries for relational databases, and are responsible for the associated database management tasks.
- You develop, train, validate, and deploy machine learning models with a focus on anomaly detection in time series.
- You implement your solutions in clean, maintainable Python code and work according to established software development practices, including the use of coding assistants.
Your Profile:
- You have completed a degree in computer science, data science, engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
- You have at least three years of professional experience as an ML Engineer or in a comparable position.
- You have very good Python skills, including advanced object-oriented programming, and experience with scikit-learn, pandas, and NumPy.
- You have very good SQL skills and experience in designing relational databases, for example with PostgreSQL.
- Good software development practices such as Git, code reviews, and comprehensible documentation are a matter of course for you.
- You have practical experience with cloud providers such as AWS and with data or machine learning applications in the cloud.
- You have sound fundamentals in machine learning and statistics, ideally with experience in time series analysis or anomaly detection.
- You think analytically and approach complex problems in a structured way.
- You are willing to work regularly on-site in Aachen; on other days, mobile working is possible.
- You have good English skills, both written and spoken.
This is a plus
- Experience in handling industrial real-time machine data
- You have experience with AI-assisted programming tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
Benefits:
- Attractive remuneration, permanent contract, and 30 days of vacation.
- Responsibility from day one with plenty of room for design and impact.
- Modern offices in Aachen with direct access to the digitalHUB ecosystem – including access to workshops and networking events.
- Flexible working hours and location-independent work (e.g., from home).
- A lived start-up culture under the umbrella of a successful, owner-managed group of companies.
- Sustainability awareness, team spirit, and a family-like culture are included on top.
