Job description
SKALAR – We are building the digital tax firm of the future
Radically simple. Fully digital. 100% client-focused.
We are rethinking tax advisory completely: simpler, faster, and more transparent for both clients and the firm's team.
Where other firms struggle with manual processes, long waiting times, and opaque communication, we are building a completely new experience – digital, proactive, AI-supported. With automated processes in the background and digital interfaces to the client, repetitive tasks largely run on their own.
The difference from other "digital firms": Over half of our team are software developers. You will directly shape what they build – and thus, what AI-supported tax advisory in this industry will look like at all.
We are an experienced founding team of tax advisors, digital entrepreneurs, and software developers with an exit track record of €140 million.
The role in one sentence
You will work hand in hand with our AI: you will review what it suggests, handle the cases it cannot yet manage, and improve it with every case.
You do not need prior tax-related education for this.
Your tasks
1. You are the control instance between data and automation
Our AI reads documents, matches them to bank transactions, and suggests processing. You will check these suggestions: invoice details, tax identification, period, assignment to the client.
You will confirm, correct, or reject.
You will identify where the recognition systematically goes wrong: specific document types, vendors, foreign currencies, formats.
2. You take over what the AI cannot do yet
Unclear payment partners, conflicting assignments, special cases without a template – anything that cannot be resolved automatically lands with you.
You will research the facts and decide them within our review criteria; anything requiring tax assessment will be passed to a certified professional.
The better the automation becomes, the more demanding the cases that land with you will be. This role will not become smaller, but more specialized.
3. You clarify with the clients
You will request missing documents – in writing, specific, and with a deadline. This is done asynchronously, meaning independent of when you work.
You will follow up on open items until completion, so that the financial statement is ready by the 15th, and you will clearly explain why a document is insufficient.
4. You make the AI better
You will report recurring error patterns: what happened, how often, what should have happened instead. Your feedback goes directly to Engineering and Design – with feedback on what was done with it.
Your profile
Must-have
Analytical thinking: You recognize patterns and deviations in data, draw the right conclusions from individual cases, and can justify why something is incorrect.
Reliable quality with a high case volume: You work thoroughly, even when the AI is correct in most cases – it is precisely then that exceptions can easily fall through the cracks.
Commitment instead of constant availability: What you commit to is done within the agreed timeframe. You decide when you do it.
Interest in AI and automation: You want to understand why a system suggests something, not just what it suggests.
Confident use of Excel/Google Sheets and digital tools; eagerness to learn new software.
Clear, friendly written communication in German (C1/C2) – client contact is predominantly written.
Quiet workspace and stable internet for your work blocks.
Nice-to-have
Commercial understanding: You know how a business transaction proceeds from invoice to payment.
First exposure to accounting, bookkeeping, DATEV, or commercial administration – even if it was years ago.
Experience from an environment with high data volume (Operations, Backoffice, Support, Fulfillment, Payment).
Practical experience with AI tools: prompts, formulas, filters, simple automations.
What we do not expect: prior tax-related education, firm experience, or programming skills.
What we offer
🕒 Flexible working hours, really. No core hours.
🤍 Realistic planning. Child sick, daycare closed, holidays: We buffer this instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Let us know, we'll reschedule.
🚀 Your improvement suggestions will be built – not filed away. Our standard: A clearly described, actionable suggestion will go live within eight working hours.
🤖 You will work at the cutting edge of what automation can do in tax advisory – access to current frontier models, hardware will be provided.
📈 Increase at any time possible – to part-time or full-time, if your situation allows. The path to becoming a specialist in digital document review is open to you.
🏡 Completely remote. Office in Munich in the heart of the city, if you want – it is not mandatory.
🎓 Real onboarding. Structured onboarding and a dedicated contact person – even with a small number of hours.
