Job description
The meteorologist is a specialist in atmospheric conditions. His/her role is to observe, analyze, and forecast climatic developments in sometimes complex environments. In the Air and Space Army, he/she provides tactical and strategic meteorological data to support operational decisions.
He/she closely collaborates with fighter squadrons, transport squadrons, helicopter squadrons, or drone squadrons to ensure air safety and operational efficiency. On base or in external mission, his/her expertise directly influences the success of interventions.
A salary equal between man and woman at the same post and hierarchical level.

The meteorology training includes two distinct phases:
- 15 weeks of learning military basics at the École de Formation des Sous-Officiers de l'armée de l'Air et de l'Espace (EFSOAAE) located in Rochefort
- 18 months of professional training at the École Nationale de la Météorologie in Toulouse: meteorological observation and measurements, climate study, and aeronautical meteorological assistance will no longer be a secret to you
You will follow a paid training:
The entry into meteorology training marks your entry into this professional career. Even if you are not yet a diploma holder, you have the salary planned for this job during the training to focus on learning your new missions.
As a meteorologist in the army, you will be expected to:
- Observe real-time meteorological data (wind, pressure, temperature, precipitation, storms) using digital tools and satellites;
- Analyze meteorological phenomena and produce operational meteorological bulletins;
- Counsel aviators and military decision-makers in the preparation and conduct of missions;
- Anticipate climatic risks that may impact aircraft flights, deployments, or logistics;
- Work in collaboration with specialized centers such as Météo-France or the Defense Meteorological Service.
- You may be deployed in metropolitan France, overseas, or in external operations (OPEX).
