Metal Fabricator

Ivers Civil Contractors Pty Ltd is an Australian Civil Construction company. We carry out concrete and structures works on large civil infrastructure projects.

We are currently looking for a Metal Fabricator to join our team.

About the Role

As a Metal Fabricator, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and repair of structural steel and metal components used in major civil infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to interpret technical drawings and perform precise metal fabrication and welding tasks in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

1. Interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine fabrication requirements
2. Selecting, measuring, cleaning, and preparing metal stock for fabrication
3. Cutting metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting equipment, and metal cutting machinery
4. Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand tools, machine tools, and heat processes
5. Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
6. Joining metal components through welding, bolting, and riveting techniques
7. Inspecting welds to ensure correct bead width, penetration, strength, and precision
8. Cleaning, polishing, filing, and finishing fabricated metal products
9. Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
10. Marking out and fabricating structural steel and other metal components to manufacture or repair metal products and structures used in civil construction projects

Position Requirements

1. Demonstrated experience working as a Metal Fabricator
2. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
3. Experience with a range of welding and metal fabrication techniques
4. Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team on active construction sites

Skills and Qualifications

1. AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or
2. AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3), or
3. At least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for formal qualifications
4. Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
5. Good problem-solving and time management skills
