Job description

For Kadaster, we are looking for a Medior/Senior Software Engineer. You will work together with colleagues within the team Kadaster Signing Service on the development of new functionalities and maintenance of applications based on thorough analyses. You actively think along from start to finish and do not only take an executive role, but also contribute to the thinking of solutions. In consultation with colleagues, the project architect, and the product owner, you prioritize your work. The product owner ensures that the backlog is filled and determines together with the team the content of the sprints.
Your tasks focus on the service Kadaster Signing Service, which technically controls and automatically electronically signs outgoing messages. You support this by electronically signing documents with a personal certificate.
In addition, you will work on the development of the Kadaster PDF Service (KPS), a general service for verification, conversion, and OCR functionality of all offered acts. OCR text results are stored in ElasticSearch and using this functionality, text fragments from the acts can be searched.
KSS and KPS both play a central role in the act processing chain of Kadaster.
You actively develop different software components. Also, deploying, managing, and monitoring these components is part of your tasks. Together with the team, you deliver high-quality software by brainstorming over design choices and future-proof solutions. You ensure together with the team the management and surveillance of the service.
You contribute positively to communication within the team and guide junior engineers in the team.
Other tasks include:
  • Executing peer reviews and ensuring knowledge through documentation and knowledge sharing;
  • Actively contributing to the development of system tests (unit and integration tests) and test automation;
  • Participating in the Java community;
  • Applying and maintaining development standards;
  • Assisting in resolving disruptions and bug fixing.

Responsibilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities are:
  • Developing and managing Kadaster Signing functionality (KSS) and the KSS-Portal (Frontend Angular application).
  • Developing and managing Kadaster PDF Services functionality (KPS).
  • Developing and managing OCR-Akteverkenner and Elan-Inlezen-HGA functionality (Java backend services and frontend applications).
  • Automating the software development process, including deployments with OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Participating in Scrum / DevOps sessions, where the team works together with the Product Owner and users to brainstorm over well-designed solutions.
  • Participating in the Java community at Kadaster.
  • Setting up and modifying backend application code and unit tests in Java, using the frameworks Hibernate and Spring Boot.
  • Modifying PostgreSQL database schemas via Flyway and Liquibase.
  • Supporting test automation, such as modifying and adding Glue code (Selenium, Cucumber).
  • Automating deployments (OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Applying and maintaining Java development standards.
  • Running performance tests with JMeter.
  • Understanding and applying Design Patterns in Java code.
  • Developing new applications and features; you are involved in the entire process: designing, developing, testing, and documenting.
  • Counseling junior engineers.

Organization

The Kadaster registers and provides data on the location of real estate in the Netherlands and the related rights, such as ownership and mortgage. As an independent administrative body, that is their statutory task. Their data provide a foundation for investigating social issues, whether it concerns the best route for a new highway, current developments on the housing market or presenting vacancy.
