Job description

Are you a specialist in computer networks and protocols with an affinity for applying simulation and training systems in an R&D context? Do you want to work in an innovative research environment where advanced simulators and interoperability are central? Then we are looking for you!

What will you do?

As a network expert within our department, you will be responsible for research and development focused on networks and systems that connect different simulators and operational systems safely and efficiently. You will work on issues related to network architectures, (simulation) protocols such as DIS and HLA, network security, and scalability of complex simulation environments. You will make a significant contribution to enabling interoperability between simulators, operational systems, and autonomous platforms, and you will be involved in the (further) development of both existing and new simulation networks. Within multidisciplinary teams, you will collaborate with software developers, domain experts, and future end-users on innovative solutions for national and international stakeholders. For this, you are willing to travel to various locations, primarily within the Netherlands.

What do you bring?

You are someone who thinks in terms of opportunities and is curious to contribute to solutions that work in practice. You easily connect with end-users and can quickly translate their wishes and ideas into creative implementations. With your creative mindset, you quickly master new techniques and know how to translate them into concrete results!

Additionally:

  • You have completed a bachelor's or master's degree in ICT, Computer Science, Informatics, Information Science, or equivalent;

  • You have at least 8 years of relevant work experience, with at least 5 years of experience in network technology, TCP/UDP, network protocols, routing, switching, and network security;

  • You master multiple programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java and have experience in scripting to quickly set up or adapt experimental environments;

  • You have an interest in experimentation, wargaming, and simulation in an R&D context;

  • You have experience in designing and managing robust, scalable network environments;

  • You are willing to delve into (military) aviation operations;

  • You enjoy teamwork, dare to experiment, and can explain technical choices to non-technical colleagues;

  • You can express yourself excellently both orally and in writing in both Dutch and English.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with or interest in simulation and interoperability protocols (DIS/HLA/FOMs);

  • Experience in setting up temporary or experimental infrastructures;

  • Knowledge of network security or VPN solutions;

  • Experience with monitoring or observability tools;

  • Interest in new technologies such as autonomous systems, AI in simulation, or digital twins.
