This is a position in which you are actively involved with safety. You ensure safety by connecting and acting decisively when necessary. You are among the people and are visibly present at the station and on the train. You have active contact with travelers and colleagues and intervene when tension arises. Your work involves approaching, de-escalating, and acting. Not afterward, but at the moment itself.

This is what you will do as an Employee Safety & ServiceYou monitor the safety of travelers and colleagues. You work preventatively and service-oriented, with safety always being paramount. Together we ensure that travelers can make their journey safely. The situation at the station or on the train can change within seconds. From a quiet shift to a moment requiring quick, thoughtful action. You are visibly present and approach people about their behavior and rules. You resolve most situations by staying calm and communicating clearly. If that is not enough, you act professionally. What you bring to this role yourself includes mental resilience: staying calm, setting boundaries, and continuing to act as pressure increases.
This is what you will do:
- Supervise the station and the train.
- Approach travelers about their behavior and rules.
- Prevent and manage conflict situations.
- Act de-escalating in cases of tension or aggression.
- Act enforceingly in cases of punishable offenses and emergencies.
- Search individuals, write official reports, and use force within your authority.
- Collaborate with colleagues and chain partners such as the police.
- Provide service to travelers, without losing sight of safety.
Training:
If you are hired, you will complete an internal training of 26 weeks (36 hours per week). You will work in practice at the location under the guidance of a workplace supervisor and you will attend classes at the NS Learning Center in Amersfoort. You will also have workplace assignments and training in the use of force and self-defense (RTGB). This way, you combine professional knowledge with practical experience.

This is where you will workYou will work from the Roosendaal location, a manageable regional station. You will have a lot of contact with regular travelers and play an important role in service and accountability. By identifying issues early and engaging in dialogue, you prevent many situations. You are part of a close-knit team of 46 Safety & Service colleagues and 2 team managers.
A shift always starts with a briefing with your colleagues where you discuss what is happening during that shift. You will go out as a duo and ensure that you are visibly working, at the station and on the train. You may also be deployed at another station if there are emergencies.
You understand that safety starts with communication. You remain calm, even under pressure. You know how to act professionally and respectfully. You always work with one or more colleagues. For this position, the following is important:
- MBO level 3 work and thinking level.
- Age 18+.
- You have a B driving license, or obtain it within 1 year.
- Own transportation (bicycle, scooter, car) to get to your base location.
- Good vision and hearing. A glasses or contact lenses are not a problem up to a maximum of +5 or –8.
- A positive Certificate of Conduct with Police Data (VOG-P) is a prerequisite to start in this position.
Furthermore, you are:
- Mentally resilient and you are not intimidated by conflict or aggression.
- Stress-resistant and calm. You remain clear during tense situations.
- Someone who dares to approach people and knows how to set boundaries.
- People-oriented. You provide service where needed.
- Physically fit to run across the station if necessary.
- Good in your communication in Dutch and English.
Please note:
- With a 36-hour workweek, you work 40 hours one week and 32 hours the other week. This means you will have one day off every 2 weeks.
- After the training period, it is possible to work part-time (24 or 32 hours per week) with the approval of your team manager.
- You are willing to work according to a full-time continuous roster. This means you can be scheduled for day shifts, night shifts, weekend shifts, and on public holidays. The principle is that you work 2 weekends per month. It is important that you are available for all shifts.
For this vacancy, based on a 36-hour workweek, we offer:
Salary:
- Starting salary between € 2,725.56 and € 3,186.00 gross per month. Your salary can ultimately increase to € 4,114.44 during your career.
- 3+ years of experience as a BOA domain 4? Then the starting salary can increase to € 3,831.84 gross per month. Your salary can ultimately increase to € 4,114.44 during your career.
- Allowance for irregular duties. During training, an average of € 220 gross per month and after training, an average of € 900 gross per month.
And:
- Paid training and salary from your 1st working day.
- A permanent contract after 1 year of good performance.
- 8% holiday allowance, 3% year-end bonus, and a good pension scheme.
- 24 to 32 vacation days + extra days off due to irregular hours.
- Option to exchange 3 Christian holidays.
- NS Business Card 2nd class for free train travel (family members travel for free during off-peak hours).
- 1st class travel for an extra personal contribution.
- As soon as you have worked at NS for 1 year, you will also receive a discount on European train travel.
- Referral bonus for new colleagues of € 1,000 net.
