This is why you want to work as a Safety & Service Employee at NS

This is a role in which you are actively involved with safety. You ensure safety by connecting and acting decisively when necessary. You are among people and are visibly present at the station and on the train. You have active contact with travelers and colleagues and intervene when tension arises. Your work revolves around addressing, de-escalating, and acting. Not afterwards, but at the moment itself.

What you will do as a Safety & Service Employee

You will monitor the safety of travelers and colleagues. You work preventively and service-oriented, with safety always taking priority. Together, we ensure that travelers can make their journeys safely. The situation at the station or on the train can change in seconds. From a calm shift to a moment that requires quick, thoughtful action. You are visibly present and will address people regarding their behavior and rules. You resolve most situations by staying calm and communicating clearly. If that is not enough, you will act professionally. What you bring to this role includes mental resilience: staying calm, setting boundaries, and continuing to act as pressure increases.

What you will do:

  • Supervise the station and the train.
  • Address travelers regarding behavior and rules.
  • Prevent and manage conflict situations.
  • Act in a de-escalating manner during tension or aggression.
  • Take enforcement action in case of criminal offenses and emergencies.
  • Search individuals, issue violation reports, and use force within your authority.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and chain partners such as the police.
  • Provide service to travelers, without losing sight of safety.

Training:
If you are hired, you will undergo an internal training program of 26 weeks (36 hours per week). You will gain practical experience at the base location under the guidance of a workplace supervisor, and you will attend classes at the NS Learning Center in Amersfoort. You will also have workplace assignments and training in the use of force and self-defense (RTGB). This way, you combine professional knowledge with practical experience.

More information about the training program can be found here.

A shift always starts with a briefing with your colleagues where you discuss what's happening during that shift. You will go out in pairs and ensure you are visibly working, at the station and on the train. You may also be deployed at another station in case of emergencies.

  • Physically fit to run across the station if necessary.
  • Good at communicating in both Dutch and English.

Please note:
