This is what you will do

Submarines are seen, but often also unseen in many parts of the world. They make as little noise or emit as few signals as possible. This way, they can efficiently defend or neutralize other ships, or gather intelligence. Unseen deployment and support of Special Forces during special operations is also a task of submarines. As a Seaman Operations Service in the Submarine Service, you operate the onboard sensors used for navigation and mapping the surroundings. You do this, of course, to ensure the boat doesn't run into anything. With this sonar equipment, all sounds from the environment are also picked up; sounds made by passing ships to conversations people have. Sonar can also be used to detect enemy submarines. Besides operating the sonar equipment, a Seaman Operations Service is also at the helm to ensure the boat stays at the correct depth. Onboard a submarine, you work with a small team, which means you may also be deployed for other tasks, such as acting as a onboard firefighter. Work onboard continues twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, so duty shifts are also worked during the night and on weekends.

This is where you will work

You will work on one of the Navy's submarines, which can be deployed anywhere in the world. But before you start, you will first complete training. This consists of 9 weeks of Maritime Military Training, 8 weeks of First Professional Training, and an 8-month internship onboard a submarine. After successfully completing your training, you will earn your Flipper. This is the insignia of the Submarine Service, a symbol that you truly belong.

A Seaman Operations Service operates the onboard sensors used for navigation and mapping the surroundings. You can grow into a petty officer.
