Marine and Musician

Introductory text

As a Marine and Musician, you have a unique role: you are the calling card of the Marine Corps, but also operationally deployable. Besides being musical, you must also be athletic and healthy. Will you set the tone within the Marine Corps?

After you have applied, you will be invited for the Marine Fitness Test. If you pass that, you will then receive an invitation for the introductory days.

What you will do

As a Marine and Musician, you have a unique role within the Marine Corps. Firstly, you are a Marine and operationally deployable. Secondly, you fulfill a special musical role as the calling card of the Marine Corps during ceremonies and official occasions at home and abroad. Therefore, you are not only musically talented but also physically fit, mentally strong, and always ready for deployment. Will you set the tone within the Marine Corps?

After you have applied, you will be invited for the Marine Fitness Test. If you pass that, you will receive an invitation for the introductory days.

Training block

During the 24-week Marine training, you will follow various training courses, including shooting training, basic helicopter training, amphibious skills, field weeks, and a three-week mountain training abroad. After successfully completing this training, you will start the 16-week MARSOC Operator Course, followed by a specialization course. After that, you will be assigned to the operational Recce & Strike Teams of the Marine Corps.

As a Marine and Musician, you will then combine your operational tasks with a musical specialization. You will provide the musical accompaniment for ceremonies and official events. You will play the drum or the c-piccolo, and also learn to play the trumpet/bugle. You are responsible for your own musical tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.

In addition to your musical activities, you will remain operationally deployable within the Marine Corps. This means you will also continuously maintain your physical and military skills. Depending on your location, your duties may be more operational or more ceremonial in nature.

Where you will work

During this training, various training courses will be offered, including shooting training, basic helicopter training, amphibious skills, field weeks, and a three-week mountain training abroad. After successfully completing this 24-week Marine training, you will start the 16-week MARSOC Operator Course, followed by a specialization course. After that, you will be assigned to the operational Recce & Strike Teams of the Marine Corps.

You can also choose to work directly within the Marine Corps after the 24-week Marine training in roles such as Musician, Mechanic, Service Year, Fleet Marine Squadron, or Rear Support. In that case, you only need to successfully complete the 24-week Marine training.
