Make a difference as a Managing Director at Berenschot
The Netherlands is facing one of the greatest transitions of this generation. The energy transition, pressure on the living environment, grid congestion, housing construction, nitrogen, climate adaptation, and spatial planning all demand new forms of collaboration between government, businesses, and societal organizations. For 85 years, Berenschot, as a leading consultancy firm, has been helping clients navigate complexity, determine direction, and achieve results. As Managing Director of Energy & Living Environment, you will play a key role in this. You will co-determine the course of our largest societal advisory practices and contribute to the future of the Netherlands. Do you have experience in one of these domains in consultancy or as a leader with one of our clients? Do you have a strong C-level network and are you commercially driven without losing sight of the societal objective? Then this is your chance to make a difference as Managing Director of Energy & Living Environment at Berenschot.
What you will do
As Managing Director and a member of the management team, you will actively contribute to the (execution of the) strategy of Berenschot and be responsible for the strategic realization and financial performance of the Energy & Living Environment (E&L) advisory group. You will be ultimately responsible for one of the largest advisory groups within Berenschot, with approximately seventy professionals and a substantial revenue contribution to the group. You will lead the E&L management team with five team leads and contribute to the further positioning and growth of Berenschot in the relevant domains, building on our strong reputation. You will set the direction for the next growth phase in energy and living environment, responding to the changing market, where digitalization and realization are also becoming increasingly important. The focus here is on effectively positioning the Energy & Living Environment advisory group with our external clients and leading the E&L teams internally towards the next phase.
You have a clear vision of the developments in the energy sector and the living environment. You know our clients, understand their issues, and translate these with your teams into a sharp strategic course, with commercial opportunities externally and a strategic personnel plan internally.
You support market teams in developing new business and initiate, develop, and realize large-scale advisory assignments and strategic collaborations.
You maintain and strengthen C-level relationships within relevant client segments for E&L: (grid operators, energy producers, heating companies, Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Infrastructure and Water Management, and regional development agencies, provinces, and water boards).
You are an authoritative discussion partner within the public debate on at least one of E&L's propositions and understand the context of the entire field in which E&L operates. You represent Berenschot in administrative networks, media, conferences, and professional platforms.
You not only provide direction to the group with its diverse teams but also build the next phase of E&L with the group.
You are visible and approachable on the work floor and build connections. You support team leads and professionals and challenge them in their development.
You are responsible for preparing and realizing a budget, and you manage billability, utilization rates, and profitability.
As a member of the Berenschot management team, you not only influence the development of the Energy & Living Environment advisory group but also share responsibility for the strategic direction, growth, and culture of Berenschot as a whole.
What you bring
You are a highly experienced and demonstrably successful consultant and/or leader with sharp strategic insight and an intrinsic motivation to contribute to the transitions that Energy & Living Environment works on.
The ideal candidate for the position:
Holds a completed university master's degree.
Possesses at least fifteen years of relevant work experience as a consultant, leader, or ultimately responsible manager within consultancy, government, energy, infrastructure, or living environment, and has an affinity with the societal challenges we address.
Has commercial clout and a solid network within the domains of the Energy & Living Environment advisory group. You have demonstrable successful experience in initiating, developing, and realizing large-scale advisory assignments and strategic collaborations.
Understands the dynamics of a professional services firm, is energetic, and can connect short-term dynamics with long-term development.
Has innovative capacity and an entrepreneurial mindset. You are a positive-critical and strategic sparring partner who dares to anticipate new developments and can advance matters from a helicopter view.
Feels comfortable with complex and challenging assignments at a high administrative/civil servant level, has a proactive attitude, a feel for social processes, and can collaborate effectively.
Has proven leadership qualities in a professional and preferably also commercial knowledge environment. You have flair, show courage and decisiveness, while remaining connected to the organization and involved clients.
Are visible and approachable to professionals. You know how to retain talent and create connection within the E&L management team and with professionals in the organization. You motivate and create support; not through power but through natural connection.
Stimulate collaboration between disciplines and actively seek collaboration with fellow Managing Directors.
