Full Time

Job description

This role is for a Management Accountant / Finance Manager to join the team at our client - Bennett Homes.

Bennett Homes - Innovate | Develop | Build

Bennett Homes operates from a Head Office in Tauranga (Oropi) and has branches in Invercargill & Matamata. From the beginning, led by Aaron Bennett, Bennett Homes has had a focus on delivering a client experience that is truly enjoyable from start to finish. These values; Innovate | Develop | Build, are the drivers of that experience.

The team strive to make what could be a complicated process for clients seamless and enjoyable. As with anything that looks simple, behind the scenes that means process has to be strong and every element of the Bennett Homes business has to be well run.

In this role you'll ensure the business has accurate and timely reporting, financial management, and is able to bring most financial accounting in house.

About the role
Currently most of the businesses accounting is outsourced. One of the first goals of this role is to bring as much in house as possible. With the exception of technical issues and actual tax agency, we'd like to see this role manage the financial and accounting function for Bennett Homes from end to end.

You'll lead one person who currently looks after accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Once those core accounting functions are in house, the real value add can begin! The team would love to see:
  • Management of banking relationships;
  • Stakeholder communication and support for business partners;
  • Smart procurement processes and support;
  • Project back-costing support;
  • Improvements in internal reporting timelines and what they cover;
  • Analysis and scenario planning to help inform strategy
Across Bennett Homes, land holdings, other developments and a future franchise offering, this role will function across a group of businesses that is anticipated to grow significantly over the coming 5-10 years.

What you can expect
  • An attractive salary. We'll ensure you're well rewarded for the impact your role has on the business!
  • Support as you learn this industry if it's new to you.
  • Respectful and supportive leadership and wider team.
  • Work with a driven team across the other branches, finding ways to help them do their best work!
  • Plenty of opportunity to engage in meaningful projects from a commercial perspective. Bennett Homes has a clear strategy and you'll be instrumental to making sure it executes on it!
  • A great working relationship with a future focused leader who loves people and is committed to building an impactful and enduring business.
Are you the one we are looking for?
This role requires a broad set of skills, listed below. Does this sound like you?
  • You are a strong, detailed financial or management accountant: The details need to be right. You will either be a qualified accountant or have very strong commercial experience that demonstrates you can deliver consistent, accurate financial management.
  • You are a great communicator and relationship builder: There's a saying that 'everything moves at the speed of trust'. You will build relationships that foster trust, and communicate so well that people know exactly where you are at. You'll be straight up too, so people know, when you say you'll do something, you will.
  • You are a problem solver: Construction businesses have some complex elements to their accounting that can require regular review and reason checking, and can be challenging to figure out! You'll find these sorts of challenges engaging and have a knack for getting to the key bits and finding a solution.
  • You'll be a star administrator: This is a small head office team! Whilst your role is clear, you'll need to be involved in a bunch of other bits in the 'commercial / admin' space. You need to be someone who is a natural at that.
