Job description

IMT Atlantique, internationally recognized for the quality of its research, is a leading engineering school under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Digital Technology, ranked among the top three international rankings (THE, SHANGHAI, QS).

The position is open on the Rennes campus within the SRCD (Network Systems, Cybersecurity, and Digital Law) department. The SRCD department consists of 24 permanent faculty members, over 10 post-doctoral researchers and contract engineers, and 30 doctoral students. Its areas of activity cover all aspects of teaching and research in systems and networks in a broad sense, in cybersecurity, and in the law and economics of digital activities. As part of its research activities, the recruited person will join the SOTERN (Self Protecting the Future Internet) team of department D2 at the IRISA laboratory (UMR CNRS 6074), one of the largest research laboratories in France (+850 people) in the field of computer science and new information technologies.

Challenges and expected profile in research theme

Two major challenges are currently having a significant impact on research and innovation in Cybersecurity. On one hand, artificial intelligence, with its recent developments and expectations for the coming years, multiplies the possibilities offered to attackers to implement new attacks, as well as to defensive structures (e.g., SOC) to detect, correlate, and counter security incidents. On the other hand, attack targets are evolving, and architectures deployed in operational networks (industrial systems, in-vehicle networks, avionics, operators of vital importance) require new means of detection and protection against a growing threat.

The profile sought for this position is thus in the theme of network security in a broad sense. Expertise will be specifically sought either in architectures, protocols, and algorithms of artificial intelligence for network security or AI (federated learning, security of AI architectures such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), etc.), or expertise in the security of operational technologies (OT) regardless of the application context.

Challenges and expected profile in teaching

Located on 3 attractive campuses, IMT Atlantique displays strong international dynamics while remaining human-sized. In these various BAC+5 programs (engineering and Master-DNM degrees), students are confronted, through varied pedagogical approaches, with concrete problem-solving situations. The school thus aims to train young professionals with high potential, capable of mobilizing a wide range of skills in real situations, in various environments (production, research, business creation, etc.) and socio-economic fields.

Involved in both core curriculum and elective tracks, the recruited person will contribute to Cybersecurity specialization as well as cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary activities or those linked to companies: project/internship tutoring, defenses, support, etc. The recruited person will be encouraged to contribute, in a spirit of collaboration, to the coherent evolution of study programs, by proposing new projects, programs, and pedagogical methodologies, particularly inspired and supported by industrial requirements and partnerships. https://www.imt-atlantique.fr/fr/formation

In line with the candidate's profile, they will be asked to take charge of teaching topics among the following: AI and Cybersecurity (offensive AI, AI for infrastructure protection, AI security), Security of industrial systems, participation then responsibility for organizing the Hack'lantique CTF, and more broadly participation in various Cybersecurity courses.

Collective responsibility and involvement in economic development

Indeed, particular attention will be paid to the candidate's ability to engage in the collective life of the school: contributing to, or leading, transversal projects (e.g., on ecological transition, taking responsibilities (training programs, research projects, teaching or research teams) or participating in bodies: teaching committee, school council, social administration committee.

Furthermore, in an environment of privileged relations with major national and international industrial partners, as well as a dense network of SMEs and Start-ups, the recruited researcher-teacher will contribute to the school's influence and economic development, notably through the valorization of their work by patent filing or technology transfer. With 257 permanent faculty researchers, 2450 students including 399 doctoral students, IMT Atlantique produces 655 publications annually and raises €28.3 million in research funding.
