Maintenance Engineer/Fitter - ANTARCTICA
Job description
Hays Recruitment is seeking expressions of interest from a Maintenance Engineer / Fitter to join the team at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. This unique opportunity involves working in one of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth.
Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1000 residents in summer season, 200 in winter)
Rate: $55 per hour
Deployment date: Feb/March 2026 (minimum 6 month assignment)
Your experience should include maintaining the following:
Heating, ventilating, cooling, hoists, compressors, hydronic systems, pumps, kitchen/galley equipment, shop tools and a wide variety of other types of equipment and their component parts.
What to expect when you’re down there:
- Accommodation provided (you will be in a bunk room)
- Free food (the meals aren’t Michelin starred, but they’re still pretty good)
- Free flights from any major NZ airport
- $55 per hour
- Work schedule: Mon – Sat, 7am – 5pm (54 hours per week)
- Medical and dental checks
- Criminal background and security checks
- Vaccinations (flu and tap)
