International train traffic is growing! Every day you want to commit yourself fully to safely and at high speed transporting international travelers with Eurostar through Europe.

Early in the morning or late at night; train travelers are always there. So, as a Eurostar machinist, you are ready to take them from station to station at a speed of 300 km/h. Within the Netherlands or across the border; you know the way and are ready for your passengers. Not only by transporting them safely and comfortably. But also if they have questions about departure times, track changes, or other (international) travel information.

This is what you will do as a Eurostar machinist

As a Eurostar machinist, you will drive the high-speed rolling stock to and from Brussels and handle the arrival and departure of trains to the shunting yard where you will perform daily checks and preparation yourself, among other things.
Within this role, you will first complete the necessary training. Depending on your existing knowledge and training, this will take between 4 months and 1 year, provided there are no unforeseen circumstances.

You will be working in a small and close-knit team, and it is precisely because of this that you will make a difference. Together with the Train Managers and Train Attendants, you are the face of Eurostar on the train. You will play an active role as a point of contact on the platforms, before departure, during stops, and after arrival of the train. The Eurostar service concept is designed in such a way that train personnel are always expected to play an active role. As a machinist, you are motivated and find it important to bring the traveler safely, on time, and as comfortably as possible to their destination.

You are responsible for the optimal safety of the traveler and the onboard crew. In addition, the service execution must be punctual and extremely careful in accordance with the established railway safety rules in different countries.

Your shift starts and ends at Amsterdam Centraal. The Eurostar team consists of approximately 50 train drivers, 90 train managers, 9 team managers, and 1 Manager Operations and Staff. Together we form a friendly and close-knit group of colleagues.
Together with all your NS colleagues, you ensure that over 1 million people reach their destination every day.

These are the job requirements

To be a machinist on a train like Eurostar and transport international train travelers at 300 km/h, you need to have what it takes:

• You are a fully licensed machinist with a valid machinist license for at least 2 years
• You are currently working as a machinist, preferably in passenger transport
• Good command of the Dutch and English languages (this will be checked during the application procedure)
• Affinity with the French language and possibly willingness to learn the language.
• Service-oriented attitude
• Ability to work independently and proactively
• Punctual
• Flexible
• Presentable and professional
• You are willing to stay overnight abroad

Furthermore, you have:

• Age of 20+.
• Your own transportation to be at the Amsterdam base preferably within 60 minutes.

These are the employment conditions

For this vacancy, based on a 36-hour work week, we offer:

Salary:

• A good starting salary, depending on your experience, up to € 3,807.00 gross per month based on 36 hours per week.
• Ultimately, you can progress to a salary of a maximum of € 4,425.84 gross per month during your career.
• Additionally, if you meet the conditions and after obtaining a valid foreign authorization, you will receive an extra monthly allowance of € 475.71.
• Allowance for irregular shifts. This depends on the roster you will be working. On average, this is between €800 to €1,200 gross per month.
• You will also receive a reimbursement for meals and overnight stays abroad, ranging from approximately €200 to €400 net per month depending on the roster you work.

And:

• Paid training and salary from your 1st working day. 
• After 1 year, a permanent contract if you prove suitable for the position.
• 8% holiday pay, 3% year-end bonus, and a good pension scheme. 
• 24 to 32 vacation days + additional days off due to irregular hours. 
• Possibility to exchange 3 national holidays. 
• NS Business Card 2nd class for free train travel (family members travel for free during off-peak hours). 
• 1st class travel at an additional personal contribution.  
• Once you have worked at NS for 1 year, you will also receive a discount on European train travel.
