Linux Systems Engineer (m/w/d) | Appliance Engineering im IT-Security-Umfeld

We are looking for an experienced Linux Systems Engineer (m/w/d) with a focus on OS-Engineering and hardware-based implementation.

The company develops and produces security appliances that are used by companies and authorities with high requirements for stability, security, and compliance.

Your Mission

You will be responsible for the technical further development and stability of a hardened Linux-based appliance operating system and work at the interface between hardware and security software.

Your focus is on ensuring that every appliance is reproducible, quality-assured, and stable – technically clean implemented and long-term maintainable.

Tasks

• Engineering and further development of Linux distributions in the Red Hat environment (AlmaLinux, historically CentOS)
• OS hardening and adaptation of a custom appliance operating system
• Hardware-based implementation and driver adaptations
• Integration and control of appliance components (e.g. displays, LEDs, modules)
• Development and optimization of deployment and packaging processes
• Participation in recovery mechanisms for enterprise appliances
• Scripting (Bash, partially Python) for automation and quality assurance
• Ensuring that security software can be operated stably and performantly on the appliance

Qualification

• Multiple years of professional experience (at least 5 years) in Linux/Unix engineering
• Very good technical understanding of Linux operating systems at an engineering level
• Experience in hardware-based work or the appliance/embedded environment is advantageous
• Fundamental knowledge of terminal-based work
• Structured and analytical working style
• High expectations for quality, stability, and reproducibility

A comprehensive technical coverage is not necessarily required – what matters are technical understanding, learnability, and a sustained quality claim.
