Linux System Administrator (m/f/d)
Job description
You don't just want to administer Linux System Administration, but also decide for yourself what a modern Open Source IT landscape should look like?🚀
Then you'll get the freedom to do so here. Our client is a growing, family-run technology company from Freiburg that develops hardware and software solutions for industrial image processing and automation. Their own systems are currently used in more than 15,000 machines worldwide.
As a Linux System Administrator, you will strengthen a deliberately small IT department and accordingly receive a great deal of scope for design. Instead of rigid corporate structures, you can expect short paths, direct exchange with management, and the opportunity to actively shape technical decisions.
The technological focus is consistently on Linux and Open Source. Exciting topics are on the agenda in the coming years: existing applications are to be migrated to Open Source alternatives, Cyber Security and Resilience are to be further expanded, and an internal Linux-based AI Server is to be continuously developed.
If Linux is your professional home and you prefer developing new solutions rather than just keeping existing systems running, you can help shape an IT landscape here long-term.
Your Benefits
Scope for Design: Actively participate in deciding how internal IT will develop in the areas of Linux, Open Source, Cyber Security, Resilience, and Automation.
Exciting Future Projects: Work on topics such as Open Source migrations, the expansion of IT Security, and your own internal Linux-based AI Server.
Direct Collaboration: Work closely with management and benefit from short decision-making processes and a lot of freedom in technical solutions.
Flexible Working: Utilize flexible working hours without fixed core hours and, as a rule, work one day a week from home. More remote work may be possible individually upon agreement.
30 Vacation Days: Benefit from 30 days of vacation and individual solutions if you need a longer break beyond that.
Bonus: In addition to your fixed salary, you will receive an annual bonus dependent on the company's success, which has already amounted to several thousand euros in successful years.
Mobility: Use the subsidized Deutschlandticket, JobRad (company bike leasing), company parking spaces, free charging for your e-car, and pool vehicles for business appointments.
Sports & Health: Benefit from Hansefit (corporate fitness program), a bouldering wall, and a table tennis table directly at the site, as well as numerous activities organized by colleagues such as climbing, mountain biking, or kayaking.
Team & Events: Look forward to summer parties, Christmas parties, joint barbecue afternoons on the rooftop terrace, and multi-day developer camps where new technologies and topics are deliberately explored.
Further Development: Receive individually tailored training and a mentor from another company department as a personal sparring partner.
Salary: Gross annual salary starting from €60,000 with willingness for significant overpayment depending on qualifications and experience.
Your Responsibilities
As a Linux System Administrator, you will not only keep existing systems running but also develop the company's future IT landscape together with the team.
Linux & Infrastructure: Be responsible for and optimize the Linux system landscape as well as the associated network and IT infrastructure.
Open Source: Consistently develop existing systems further and accompany migrations from standard software to suitable Open Source alternatives.
Virtualization & Automation: Work with technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, and vSphere and automate processes using Python and Ansible, for example.
Cyber Security: Further develop security and resilience and deal with technical requirements related to NIS 2, GDPR, CRA, and TISAX.
AI Infrastructure: Manage and expand the company's own Linux-based AI server and create a secure infrastructure for the internal use of artificial intelligence.
Technical Support: Solve complex internal IT issues for predominantly technically savvy users with a focus on the second and third levels of support.
Your Profile as Linux System Administrator
Completed apprenticeship as a IT Specialist, IT System Administrator, a completed computer science degree, or a comparable qualification.
At least two years of professional experience with a clear focus on Linux Administration after completing your apprenticeship or studies.
Very good Linux skills: You already work routinely with Linux and don't need to be introduced to the operating system.
Solid understanding of network technology, network protocols, and IT infrastructure.
Experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere.
Knowledge in automation, for example with Python, Ansible, or comparable technologies.
Passion for Open Source and an interest in building an IT landscape based on open and secure solutions long-term.
Fluent German language skills at at least C1 level and fluent English skills.
Independent, pragmatic way of working and a desire to actively shape technical decisions and try out new solutions together as a team.
Knowledge of Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, or Ceph, as well as experience with IT Security, are advantageous.
