Job description
AEE – Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) is a leading non-university research institution in the field of applied research focusing on Buildings, Industrial Systems, as well as Cities and Grids, and Technology Development. Around 90 employees from more than 15 nations work together at our site in Gleisdorf on concrete solutions for the energy transition.
Energy storage systems represent a key technology in a transformed energy system. The Working Group Thermal Energy Storage works on technologies for large-scale communal and urban heat storage, high-temperature storage for industry, Carnot batteries (Power2Heat2Power solutions), and compact heat storage (based on sorption and phase change materials). We develop and demonstrate storage components and systems in national and international research collaborations and work on their integration into the energy system.
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a
Head (m/f/d) of the Working Group
„Thermal Energy Storage“
(Part-time or Full-time)
- Technical and organizational leadership of the Working Group „Thermal Energy Storage“
- Strategic, methodical, and personnel planning and/or further development of the Working Group
- Identification of technological challenges, definition of derived research questions, and development of sustainable and implementation-oriented solutions
- Leadership and content support of national and international research projects focusing on the development of heat storage technologies, their coupling with conversion technologies such as heat pumps, and their integration into the energy system
- Acquisition of new projects in close cooperation with technology providers and energy supply companies
- Presentation and publication of research results in project meetings, at technical conferences, and in relevant trade journals or publications
- Successfully completed university degree (university of applied sciences or academic university) and qualifications, preferably in the fields of energy technology, mechanical engineering, process engineering, physics, or a related discipline
- Experience in project management and project acquisition
- Understanding of and experience in the field of (thermal) energy systems
- Experience in the technical and personnel leadership of teams
- Very good German and English language skills, both written and spoken
- Communicative personality with organizational talent and team spirit
- Confident presentation skills as well as strong competence in building and maintaining international research networks
- Enjoyment of challenging projects as well as the generation and testing of novel ideas
- Integration and scientific work in international expert networks
- Creative working environment with a high degree of creative freedom

The collective agreement for non-university research applies to the advertised position. The minimum annual salary is € 80,000 gross (full-time). The actual classification will depend on qualifications and experience.
