Job description

Are you confident in accounting, think entrepreneurially, and want to do more than just manage numbers? Do you enjoy delving into complex relationships, taking on responsibility, and guiding external experts at an equal level of expertise?

Then this position might be exactly right for you.

For the S-UBG Group in Aachen, we are seeking a Head of Finance and Accounting (m/f/d) for direct employment, who will be professionally responsible for the accounting of 13 companies, has a firm command of annual financial statements, and actively shapes collaboration with tax advisors and auditors.

You can expect a challenging role with a great deal of autonomy, insights into various company and investment structures, and responsibility for the professional and disciplinary leadership of a small, experienced team.

This awaits you

  • Prepare and audit annual financial statements: You will manage the accounting for 13 capital and partnership companies of varying sizes and requirements. You will independently prepare annual financial statements according to HGB, review externally prepared statements, and handle their publication.

  • Ensure quality of financial statements: You will be responsible for correct reconciliations, accruals, and provisions, and will act as the central professional point of contact for the audit of the five annual financial statements to be audited.

  • Coordinate tax matters: You will handle tax issues for the companies and assist in the preparation of tax returns – independently or in collaboration with external tax advisors, depending on the company. Tax prepayments, e-bilances, flat-rate payroll taxes, and participation in tax audits also fall within your responsibilities.

  • Support external partners and shareholders: You will manage the collaboration with tax advisors and auditors, question results, and clarify tax and economic issues with shareholders and internal contacts.

  • Manage liquidity and investments: You will be responsible for liquidity and fixed-term deposit management, create liquidity plans and capital calls, and prepare recommendations for financial decisions.

  • Shape planning and reporting: You will prepare business plans, quarterly reports, and earnings forecasts, prepare templates for the supervisory board and general meeting, and coordinate statistical reports to authorities and associations.

  • Oversee investment structures: You will deal with the specific accounting and tax particularities of various company and fund structures and undertake tasks in the post-management of liquidated funds.

  • Lead the team: After your onboarding, you will take on the professional and disciplinary leadership of a well-established small team. You will ensure clear processes, good collaboration, and high-quality work results.

What makes this role special

  • Accounting with professional demands: Different company forms, investment structures, and tax particularities lead to varied tasks beyond classic financial accounting.

  • Autonomy instead of mere support: You will not only prepare and audit financial statements but also independently assess situations, question external results, and actively contribute your professional assessment.

  • Entrepreneurial view beyond accounting: You will also engage with liquidity planning, investments, and economic decisions, thus extending your influence beyond traditional balance sheet accounting.

  • Combined professional responsibility and leadership: You will combine demanding accounting tasks with the leadership of a small, experienced team. You will remain deeply involved in the professional topics while simultaneously shaping collaboration and workflows.

  • Room for development: Are you interested in improving processes, automating workflows, or using AI effectively in accounting and reporting? Then your ideas are welcome.

What you bring to the table – Must have

  • Solid experience in balance sheet accounting: You have independently prepared annual financial statements according to HGB and possess sound knowledge of accounting and financial statement preparation.

  • Tax understanding: You are familiar with the essential tax relationships of capital and partnership companies and can professionally classify tax matters.

  • Accounting accuracy and analytical thinking: You identify discrepancies, question bookings and financial statements, and can also thoroughly understand complex situations.

  • Diligence and reliability: You work responsibly, independently, and meet deadlines – with a high standard for the quality of your results.

  • Initiative and willingness to learn: You actively engage with new legal requirements, independently learn about unfamiliar topics, and assess their impact on the companies.

  • Entrepreneurial understanding: You do not view numbers in isolation but understand their significance for economic decisions and develop solution-oriented approaches.

  • Leadership competence and team orientation: You possess the ability and willingness to professionally and disciplinarily lead a small team. Initial leadership experience is welcome but not a mandatory requirement.

What you bring to the table – Nice to have

  • Further training as a Certified Accountant (IHK), Tax Specialist, or a relevant business administration degree. Your practical experience is decisive – a specific formal degree is not a prerequisite.

  • Experience in the accounting of investment companies, asset management companies, or venture capital funds.

  • Knowledge of the tax treatment of complex shareholder and investment structures.

  • Experience in liquidity planning, reporting, or financial management.

  • Initial experience in the professional guidance or coordination of employees.

  • Interest in digitalization, process automation, and the use of AI in accounting, controlling, or reporting.

  • Good English language skills.

What is offered to you

  • Exciting incentive programs are offered.

  • 30 days of vacation per year.

  • Mobile working: You can work remotely up to two days per week.

  • 40-hour week with clearly defined contractual working hours.

  • Opportunities for development: Your ideas for the further development of processes, digitalization, and automation are welcome.
