Legal Counsel - Compliance (m/f/d)

Your Areas of Responsibility

• In this role, you will work closely with our Data Protection Officer, CTO, and CPO, and will be responsible for the operational implementation of our data protection and IT compliance processes at the intersection of GDPR, AI Act, and US higher education requirements (HECVAT, SOC 2):
• Customer Trust & Security Assurance: You will answer security and data protection questionnaires (e.g., HECVAT, VPAT/WCAG, Security Questionnaires), conduct expert discussions with IT security officers of universities/clinics, and build up our central Trust & Compliance Knowledge Base including its update process.
• Data Protection & Compliance Operations: You will maintain directories and registers (VVT, sub-processors, certificates, deletion concept, TOMs, incidents), operationally manage data subject requests, and triage new IT and AI tools from the business units.
• Contracts & Registers: You will build a central contract register (standard vs. individual agreements, AVV versions, deviation analyses) and keep AVV appendices technically up-to-date.
• Processes & Automation: You will establish scalable workflows and purposefully use AI and automation tools (e.g., for document comparisons and drafts).

Your Profile

• Work Experience: Approx. 3–5 years of experience in IT compliance, GRC, information security, data protection operations, or third-party risk (ideally in the SaaS/software environment).
• Expertise: Experience in answering enterprise security questionnaires (e.g., HECVAT, VSA, SIG) and a solid technical understanding (e.g., encryption, SSO, hosting, backups).
• Language Skills: Fluent German and English, both written and spoken (min. C1 level), for legal and international customer communication.
• AI & Automation Skills: Routine and critical use of AI tools; experience with automation (n8n, Zapier) or GRC platforms (e.g., Vanta, Drata) is a plus.
• Working Style: High degree of independence and personal responsibility, structured prioritization, and confident demeanor in direct communication with customers and IT managers.
