Legal Counsel

Job description

Position: Legal Counsel (Intellectual Property & Contracts) Purpose of the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Legal Counsel to oversee and protect the organisation's intellectual property (IP) and contracts portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping legal frameworks, guiding IP development within technical projects, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, and safeguarding the company's commercial interests through sound legal strategy. Responsibilities: * Manage and maintain the company's IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. * Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including but not limited to, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and service agreements. * Provide legal advice and support to various departments on IP-related matters, contract interpretation, and compliance issues. * Conduct IP due diligence for potential acquisitions, investments, and collaborations. * Develop and implement IP protection strategies aligned with business goals and objectives. * Monitor and enforce IP rights, including managing infringement claims and cease and desist letters. * Advise on data protection and privacy regulations, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant laws. * Stay abreast of changes in IP law, contract law, and relevant regulations. * Collaborate with external counsel as needed. * Support the company in any litigation that may arise. Qualifications: * Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. * Licensed to practice law and in good standing with a state bar. * Minimum of 5+ years of experience in IP and contract law, preferably in a corporate environment. * Deep understanding of patent prosecution, trademark registration, and copyright law. * Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts. * Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Strong organizational and time-management skills. * Experience with technology and/or software companies is a plus.
