Job description

The Challenge

Complex machines require software that is correct from the very first design. PLC control, motion, robotics, hardware, and mechanics must work together seamlessly. And for machines that have never been built before, the solution is not readily available.

As a Lead Software Engineer PLC & Industrial Automation, you will take technical leadership over software development within complex high-tech machine building. You will translate functional requirements and customer wishes into a robust control solution and monitor technical choices from design and architecture to commissioning and implementation.

What will you do?

You are technically responsible for the software within multidisciplinary machine building projects. You translate customer wishes and system requirements into a software architecture and determine how the control system will be built:

  • Designing software architecture for complex machines

  • Developing PLC software and solutions for motion and robotics

  • Translating requirements into technical solutions

  • Providing substantive direction and guidance to software engineers

  • Coordinating with system, mechanical, and electrical engineering

  • Monitoring technical choices, quality, and progress

  • Testing, debugging, and commissioning machines

  • Technical coordination with clients during the project

How you make an impact

Your choices determine how a machine is controlled and how reliably it ultimately performs. You look beyond just the PLC code and oversee the coherence between software, motion, robotics, hardware, and mechanics.
You are the technical point of contact for engineers and clients, involve other software engineers in technical choices, and ensure that solutions not only work but are also robust, maintainable, and reusable. In doing so, you directly influence both the machine and the way software is developed in future projects.

What you will receive from us

  • Salary of €4,000 – €7,500 gross per month

  • 27 vacation days + 13 ADV days (days off in lieu of overtime)

  • Annual profit sharing

  • Good pension scheme

  • Travel expenses reimbursement

  • Plenty of opportunities for training and technical development

What it will bring you

You will get a role in which you not only build software but also determine how the control system of a new machine is technically set up:

  • Determine the software architecture for new high-tech machines

  • Combine PLC control with motion and robotics

  • Discuss technical solutions and choices directly with clients

  • Provide substantive direction to other software engineers

  • Follow your design from initial requirements to commissioning

  • Build standards and software components that are reused in subsequent machines

Task distribution

30% Software architecture & technical design
25% Developing PLC, motion & robotics
20% Technical coordination with clients & engineering
15% Substantively directing software engineers
10% Testing, debugging & commissioning

  • Knowledge of motion control and/or robotics

  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP)

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-tech machine building

  • Experience within semicon or analytical systems
