Lead Software Engineer / Energy Startup (m/f/d)
Job description
About the job
At Gridty, we are developing an AI platform that supports companies in intelligently analyzing and sustainably reducing their energy consumption. ⚡️
Our software connects energy data from many locations and technical systems, automatically detects anomalies and inefficiencies, and supports energy and sustainability teams with AI agents in analyzing and optimizing their operations.
Our focus is particularly on companies with many locations – for example, in retail, logistics, and other energy-intensive industries.
Who are we?
We are a young energy and AI startup from Cologne and are currently in an exciting growth phase.
Our platform is live and already in use by initial customers. Now we want to take the next step: more locations, more data sources, better automated analyses, and a platform that can scale with our customers.
To achieve this, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer & Platform Lead (m/f/d) who is eager to take on responsibility early on and significantly shape our technical platform. 🚀
Our Stack
Among other things, we are currently working with:
Python · FastAPI · React · TypeScript · PostgreSQL / Timeseries · Google Cloud · Docker · LLMs / AI Agents
You don't have to master every single tool on this list yet.
Where do we work?
Gridty is based in Cologne. We work hybrid and meet regularly in person as a team.
Therefore, it would be ideal if you are from Cologne or the surrounding region or can be on-site regularly. At the same time, it is more important for us to find the right person than to sit in the same office together every day. 💻
How does our application process work?
- Short get-to-know-you via Google Meet – approx. 15–30 minutes
- Technical and personal interview – approx. 60 minutes
- In-person meeting in Cologne
- Welcome to Gridty! ⚡️
Interested?
We look forward to getting to know you.
Responsibilities
Your tasks
You will take on a central technical role at Gridty and further develop our platform together with us.
Specifically, this includes:
- Technical ownership for central parts of our platform and software architecture
- Further development of our backend services and APIs with Python/FastAPI
- Further development of our React/TypeScript frontend
- Building and scaling our data architecture for large volumes of energy and time-series data
- Further development of our AI-based analysis functions and integration of LLM/agent workflows
- Integration of new data sources, measurement systems, and external APIs
- Implementation of technical customer integrations and support with complex troubleshooting
- Ensuring code quality through testing, reviews, and sensible engineering standards
- Further development of our cloud infrastructure, deployments, and CI/CD processes
- Monitoring, security, and performance optimization of our platform
- Contributing to our technical roadmap and future architecture
And above all: You will get a lot of creative freedom and responsibility.
We are a small team – good ideas don't get lost in five approval levels with us, but can directly become part of the product.
Qualifications
Who are you?
You…
- are eager to work on a product with real impact on energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
- like responsibility, creative freedom, and the pace of a startup.
- have several years of experience in professional software development.
- feel at home in the backend and with software architecture, and at the same time are not afraid to also look at the frontend.
- have experience with Python and ideally FastAPI or comparable frameworks.
- are familiar with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend technologies like React.
- have experience with relational databases and ideally also with larger time-series data.
- think not only in features but also in scalable architecture, clean code, testing, security, and reliable operation.
- can make technical decisions independently and communicate them clearly.
- speak fluent German and English.
Nice to have: Experience with cloud infrastructure, data engineering, LLMs/AI agents, energy systems, or IoT/measurement data. However, the most important thing is that you are eager to dive into these topics.
