Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Title: Lead Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role Salary: Circa £55,000 What you’ll be doing: As a Lead Principal Engineer within the SSNA Platform Mechanical Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), you will play a key leadership role in delivering engineering scope across a complex and fast-paced submarine programme. You’ll take ownership of multiple systems, providing technical direction to a team of engineers and ensuring the successful delivery of mechanical engineering solutions. Your responsibilities will include: * Technical leadership of mechanical design activities. * Providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers. * Ensuring designs meet relevant safety and performance requirements. * Managing the delivery of engineering scope within budget and schedule constraints. * Collaborating with other engineering disciplines. * Representing the mechanical engineering team in project meetings and reviews. * Identifying and mitigating technical risks. * Supporting the development of engineering processes and procedures. Your skills and experience: You’ll have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in the design and analysis of complex systems. You'll also need: * A degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. * Significant experience in mechanical design. * Experience of leading and mentoring engineering teams. * A good understanding of relevant engineering standards and regulations. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Experience of working in a project environment.
