Do you want to keep Dutch airspace safe from the ground with one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world? Then the Defence Ground-based Air Defence Command (DGLC) is for you. United on the ground, decisive in the air: that is our motto. As an air defender, you will track threats from the air from the ground and protect people and vital areas against attacks by missiles, (un)manned aircraft, and helicopters. Are unknown aircraft or objects detected in the airspace during an exercise or mission? Then the DGLC takes action. As a Corporal Launch with the Patriot weapon system, you will work with high-tech launch systems that you will maintain, assemble, and prepare for firing. Can you handle the responsibility of defending the airspace with Patriot?

What you will do

As a Corporal Air Defence Launch, you will be part of the launch crew. This team is responsible for the maintenance, assembly, loading, and preparation for firing of the Patriot weapon system's launch units. These can be used to detect and intercept targets at long distances and altitudes. Together with the fire control crew (which scans the airspace for unknown aircraft and projectiles), the launch crew forms a close-knit team that regularly goes on exercises. During your service, you will experience major exercises in other NATO countries and firing exercises in Crete.

Where you will work

You will work in a unique unit. Because DGLC is the only unit within Defence that performs the task of ground-based air defence. It is also special that both Army and Air Force personnel work with us. You may also be deployed to guard the airspace elsewhere in NATO. Before you start the actual role, you will follow military training and vocational training. This happens, unlike other roles within Defence, at our department. So, during your training, you are already at the barracks where you will be working. You learn and immediately build a bond with your future colleagues.
