Job description

Introduction

Have you (almost) completed your technical education? Of course, you can start working with machines or electrical cabinets at a 'regular' technical company, but how about working in weapons technology? As a Corporal Weapons Mechanic, you ensure that the high-tech weapons of the Royal Netherlands Army are optimally deployable.

What you will do

The Technical Service maintains and repairs the Army's equipment, often using the most modern equipment.

As a Corporal Weapons Mechanic, you will maintain technically advanced weapons and other equipment. Think of handguns, various rifles, a 'remote controlled' rapid-fire cannon, or optics (scopes). If necessary, you will replace various parts. You will work intensively with your colleagues from the Technical Service, who all maintain and repair different Army equipment and often use the most modern equipment. Because you are a military professional as well as a technician, your duties also include mastering your personal weapon and camouflaging and securing your own equipment.

PLUS POINTS OF THIS FUNCTION

  • Salary: your gross basic salary, plus allowances and our favorable travel expenses, pension, and health insurance schemes, result in a pleasant net surprise.
  • Work atmosphere: you will not find such a close-knit team of colleagues anywhere else as at the Ministry of Defence.
  • Growth opportunities: In addition to being an employer, the Ministry of Defence is also a large training institute where you can follow (paid) training courses to grow personally and professionally.

Please note: There are multiple start dates throughout the year. The start date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. Once all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and confirmed with you.

Where you will work

You will work at a recovery unit of the 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, Stroe, De Peel. Or at the 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte, Wezep, or 't Harde.

After joining, you will first follow the Basic Training of the Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot or Assen. After completion, you will start the job-specific training at the Logistics Training and Education Centre in Soesterberg.

As a Military personnel, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you should be aware that, like all Military personnel, you may be deployed abroad.

You will then lead a team of technicians or work on more complex systems such as the firing system of a CV90 infantry fighting vehicle, a Leopard main battle tank, or a self-propelled howitzer. It is also possible to grow into a specialist in these systems.
