Then apply for a spot at the Commando Corps (KCT), the Special Forces of the Army. Not only must you possess excellent physical and mental condition, a rigorous selection and training process awaits you.

Note: If hired for this position, you will be appointed to Defense as a ‘Corporal Special Operations Commando’.

What you will do

As a Corporal Special Operations Commando in the Army, you will work at the Commando Corps (KCT). You can be deployed for short, swift actions or for operations lasting several days. You will carry out secret missions in small groups, deep in enemy territory. Your main tasks consist of:

• Special Reconnaissance (SR): gathering intelligence about the enemy, conducted in a hostile or semi-hostile environment, a diplomatically sensitive or politically sensitive environment.
• Direct Action (DA): short, small-scale, and swift operations to apprehend, neutralize, destroy, damage, or rescue a target. Conducted in hostile or semi-hostile environments.
• Military Assistance (MA): training or educating a national or international special unit. For example, Dutch commandos each guide African partner units during the annual exercise Flintlock.

Where you will work

You will be stationed at the Engelbrecht Van Nassaukazerne in Roosendaal. You will participate in exercises and should take into account that you may be deployed abroad.

Before you start, you will first attend the KCT Information Day and the KCT Introduction Days. This is mandatory. This will be followed by a training program of approximately 1 year and 9 months. First, you will complete the 20-week Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Schaarsbergen. Subsequently, three training courses will follow in Roosendaal: the Preliminary Training (VO) of 2 months, the Elementary Commando Training (ECO) of 2 months, and finally the Advanced Commando Training (VCO) of 12 months. After successfully completing your training, you will immediately begin your career as a Corporal Special Operations Commando.

Every commando begins their operational career as an assaulter in one of the commando companies. During your assignment in the commando team, you will further develop in a specialization of your choice. This can be an individual or an operational specialization such as counter-terrorism or military mountain guide. Most commandos start as a corporal team member in the teams. After the initial period, you can progress to non-commissioned officer or officer in the commando team. If you wish, you can remain active in the special operations domain throughout your entire career. Do you want to broaden your horizons as a commando on a personal level? Learn another language or pursue a university degree? After proving yourself as a special operations commando, much is possible. Of course, a healthy balance between work and private life must be sought.
