Do you have a passion for cooking? Do you have a passion for sailing or life at sea? Then non-commissioned officer cook on board is for you! As a non-commissioned officer cook, you will be trained internally to prepare professional meals based on your acquired knowledge, material, personnel and budget. You work with modern equipment and fulfill exciting assignments of several months that take you to other parts of the world. Depending on the needs of Defense, you alternate functions at sea with functions ashore. No work experience is required for this job.

Setting up menus and applying different cooking techniques. Managing the food and leading and guiding the catering staff under your authority. Ensuring that Hazard Analysis - Critical Control Point or Hazard Analysis - Critical Control Points (HACCP) and safety regulations are properly complied with. Leading and guiding the catering staff under your authority. Contributing to the general maintenance of the ship.

You are flexible. Being away from home, sometimes for several months, is not a problem for you. You don't mind living in a group for extended periods (exercises or operations). “Leading by example” is obvious to you. Filling different functions during an assignment seems interesting to you. Responsibilities

You start your career on board a ship of the Navy. The annual sailing program is varied in training assignments, operational assignments and maintenance periods in Zeebrugge or Den Helder. You can grow within a unit to other functions according to the opportunities. You can learn through the whole range of training and courses that Defense offers you. In addition, you will also participate in foreign assignments and exercises where you gain unforgettable experiences.

Qualifications

Military basic training (MBV)

This training in a training camp in Belgium lasts approximately 4 months and starts with a military initiation phase, where you work on your physical condition and learn basic military skills. This is followed by basic training for managers. During this period you are in boarding school.

Specialized professional training (GPV)

In the Competence Center of the Navy in Sint-Kruis (Brugge) you will follow a nautical basic training of 7 weeks and a cook training of approximately 9 months. In the Logistics training center in Doornik you will learn logistic procedures needed for your function for 1 week.

Internship and/or evaluation period

Now you can really get to work at your workplace, first under supervision and then independently.
