Junior Software Engineer (m/f/d) - Focus iOS

We are now looking to strengthen our team with a Junior Software Engineer with a focus on iOS to further develop ottonova's modern software ecosystem. You will be part of one of our five engineering teams, offering an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced software engineers and advance your professional career.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to participate in our Chapters – for example, 'Mobile' and 'Architecture' – where all software developers in the company exchange their experiences. This allows you to learn and develop faster as an engineer.

As a Junior iOS Developer, you will work in a cross-functional team on developing features for the ottonova iOS app. You will collaborate closely with our Product Manager, other Native Mobile Engineers, Designers, and Backend Engineers, and actively shape the future of our products. The team is based in Munich and works in a hybrid model.

YOUR AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Make our app even better: You will work with other developers on improving existing features and implementing new ones.
• Shape new features: You will contribute to the development of new features, ensuring a reliable, maintainable, and high-performance codebase.
• Own your code: You will independently test your developments and learn to create and enhance automated tests with XCTest and XCUITest.
• Documentation & Reviews: You will participate in code reviews, document your solutions, and benefit from the exchange with experienced colleagues.
• Bring your ideas: You think creatively, approach problems solution-oriented, and help us redefine the perception of health insurance.

YOUR PROFILE

• You are interested in developing high-quality software: testing, code reviews, and clean programming practices.
• You are capable of clearly communicating and discussing technical concepts, as well as writing technical documentation.
• You have very good written and spoken English skills, as well as clear and effective communication abilities.
• You have a good understanding of your personal toolset: your operating system, Xcode, debugging tools, and AI-powered development.
• You enjoy creating an excellent mobile user experience (UX) and enjoy working closely with designers.
• You have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• You complement your profile with basic knowledge in the following areas:
  • Swift
  • Building user interfaces on iOS (UIKit and/or SwiftUI)
  • Fundamentals of concurrency (async/await, main thread safety)
  • Knowledge of reactive programming (RxSwift)
  • Version control (Git)
  • Unit tests

Bonus points.
Not a requirement, but the following aspects would be advantageous:

• Experience with RxSwift
• Experience in Memory Management
• Familiarity with architectural patterns (e.g., MVVM)
• Experience with REST APIs
• Knowledge of Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP)
• Personal projects, an App Store publication, or open-source contributions
• Experience with Scrum
• Knowledge of German
• Any other knowledge and skills that help us build the best health insurance in the world!
