Junior Infrastructure Fitter - Metro

It is early in the morning when you receive the signal that a fault has been reported. You grab your tools, drive the diesel locomotive to the location, and assess on-site what needs to be done. As a junior infrastructure fitter, you ensure that the metro track remains safe and that work can proceed smoothly. Curious about what your day looks like? Read on.

What you will do

You will work on one of the most crucial parts of Amsterdam's metro infrastructure. You will be involved in the maintenance and repair of the metro track. You inspect the track, drive the diesel or electric locomotive, and couple or uncouple wagons. You repair parts of the rails, weld and grind damaged sections, and drill bolt holes when necessary. Sometimes you will temper ballast under sleepers in places where machines cannot reach.

Additionally, you will handle faults. You assess the situation on-site, choose your approach, and consult with colleagues when the situation deviates from drawings or plans. You meticulously record your work and leave the worksite tidy. In case of emergencies, you work with emergency services and arrange traffic around the location if necessary.

You will work with clear instructions but also use your own judgment: you see what is needed and take initiative. Moreover, you can grow: from junior fitter to mid-level or senior, and with further training, towards supervisor.

What you bring

You are a go-getter who enjoys learning. You work independently, think in terms of solutions, and are open to other opinions and ideas.

• an MBO-2 (vocational) education in electrical engineering, metalworking, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering;
• preferably >1 year of experience in technical maintenance;
• basic knowledge of rail infrastructure (or the motivation to learn it quickly);
• the willingness to obtain necessary certifications (such as VHP, CVB, LWB).

• The salary for this position ranges from a minimum of € 2,373 to a maximum of € 3,467 gross per month based on 36 hours per week (scale 5). Placement will be based on education and relevant work experience.
• A signing bonus of € 1,500 net.
• Additionally, you will receive an MRI class 2, € 416.72. Depending on the depot and the roster you are assigned to, a roster percentage of 17.2% will be awarded.
• A 13th month's salary, 8% holiday pay, a 1.5% sustainable employability allowance plus a well-arranged pension;
• A contribution towards health insurance of € 84.91 per month;

Your team

Rail Infrastructure is responsible for the management, operation, and maintenance of the rail infrastructure in Amsterdam. With this, we ensure a safe and reliable metro and tram network. Rail Infrastructure consists of the departments Area Management and Execution.
Area Management: Manages the assets and ensures an optimal balance between costs, risks, and performance, now and in the future.
Execution: Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and replaces parts where necessary, so that operation can run without faults throughout the entire operating period.

You will join a team within Execution Metro Track. You will work in a close-knit team with 12 fitters, four supervisors, four planners, and one technical analyst. You start the week together, have a brief daily start-up meeting, and regularly go on team outings. The atmosphere is collegial, direct, and engaged. You will work irregular hours, including one on-call shift and, during the winter period, snow duty.
