Te Tūranga - The Role
We have an exciting opportunity in our Christchurch Head Office for a Junior Mechanical Engineer - to join our product development-focused Mechanical Engineering team on a one-year fixed term basis, starting November 2025. Predominantly this role would support the Mechanical development of our next generation of Basestation products. Expected areas of work would include Sheetmetal component design for enclosing PCBs and other electrical components, thermal management design and the design of external interfaces for the connected cabling and user controls.
This role is ideal for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate who is ready to take the first step in their career, gain hands-on experience, and grow their skills as part of a collaborative, supportive team. You will be involved in the design and development of innovative communication products that help keep communities safe.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting requirements capture and design activities
- Assisting with CAD modelling, prototyping, and design implementation
- Participating in design reviews and applying feedback to improve outcomes
- Supporting product manufacture and testing processes
- Learning and applying industry standards, tools, and best practices
- Working collaboratively with senior engineers to deliver projects and contribute ideas

To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be completing a relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (graduating in 2025)
- Have a genuine interest in product design and development
- Be eager to learn and apply knowledge in a practical, hands-on environment
- Have some familiarity with CAD/3D design tools (experience with Creo is an advantage, but not essential)
- Bring strong problem-solving, observational, and analytical skills
- Be a good communicator and team player, with a proactive, positive attitude
- Most importantly, you'll have the enthusiasm to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful projects.
