Job description

My client is a high-growth tech scale-up transforming an essential industry, where ideas are valued, impact is real, and growth is limitless. This is an office-based role with a personal development budget, wellness perks, paid parental leave, unlimited annual leave, and stock options.

About the role
We are seeking a passionate and hands-on junior firmware engineer to join our client's team in Auckland. You'll work at the intersection of software, firmware, and hardware, helping to develop technology that is transforming a centuries-old industry.
As a member of the platform team, you'll be responsible for all aspects of a device's firmware, from ultra-low power design to in-field upgrades and monitoring. This is a chance to take ownership of your work from inception to mass deployment and maintenance.

What your day could look like
  • Hands-on development of firmware to improve product performance and deliver new features.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to integrate and deploy your work.
  • Building and maintaining the infrastructure and support systems for a global network of devices.
  • Troubleshooting firmware issues and implementing solutions to prevent future problems.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of our client's product development lifecycle.
  • Participating in code reviews and helping to maintain high code quality.
Who we’re looking for
  • A passionate engineer with up to three years of experience in firmware development.
  • Someone who loves solving hard technical problems and delivering new features to customers.
  • A strong team player who excels in giving and receiving feedback.
  • Someone comfortable working with low-level hardware and resource-constrained systems.
  • Possesses foundational C++ knowledge and the ability to apply it in practical settings. You understand core concepts like memory management, object-oriented programming, and basic templates, and have experience writing, debugging, and maintaining C++ code in real-world or academic projects.
Only candidates based in New Zealand will be considered for this opportunity.
