IT System Engineer (m/f/x)
Job description
Veterinary medicine rethought - with you!
Rex has set itself the task of helping pet owners to optimally care for their best friends.
To achieve this, we want to fundamentally redesign veterinary care, focusing on the satisfaction and development of our employees in the team on the one hand, and on an improved customer experience on the other.
With us, your voice is not only heard, but we need your experience and your perspective to allow Rex to grow even faster.
Why at Rex? It’s simple:
We are facing the complex challenge of digitally transforming veterinary medicine. To this end, we develop and operate a highly available, scalable platform that enables both an outstanding customer experience and efficient, data-driven practice workflows.
As we continuously open new practices and expand our presence in Germany, we are looking for someone who will ensure that every new location is technically ready from day 1 – and that the infrastructure behind our platform remains secure and stable with our growth. Build and manage the systems that make our expansion possible!
Exciting tasks await you:
As our IT System Engineer, you will ensure reliable systems and drive excellent processes in the following areas:
Practice Infrastructure & Setups:
You will plan and implement the complete IT setup for new openings – from IT procurement, network design, and VPN connection to central systems, through the provision of workstations, POS systems, printers, and peripherals, to the setup and troubleshooting of medical devices. Before go-live, you will validate that everything functions smoothly.Ongoing Practice Support:
You will provide troubleshooting and hardware support for our growing practice network and develop standardized, repeatable setup processes that become faster and more reliable with each opening.Cloud Infrastructure & Security:
You will manage and further develop our cloud environment and are responsible for security and access management (IAM policies, Credential Hygiene, Least-Privilege Principle). As part of our scaling efforts, you will help us introduce the next level of infrastructure maturity (e.g., load balancing and automated infrastructure management).Compliance & Data Protection:
You will ensure that our infrastructure and practice setups comply with all data protection requirements (including GDPR) when handling customer and patient data – from on-site access controls to storage, securing, and auditing in the cloud.Monitoring & Reliability:
You will monitor the availability and performance of our systems, participate in rotations, and identify infrastructure risks before they lead to failures.Engineering Partnership:
You will work closely with our software engineering team on deployments and infrastructure requirements, bringing an operational mindset to the development and release process.
You have the following qualifications:
We are looking for IT System Engineers who are at home in both practical hardware handling and cloud operations – pragmatic problem solvers rather than theorists who only want to work on one level of the stack.
Location & Language:
Fluent German and English in spoken and written form. Current residence in Germany and a valid work permit are mandatory requirements for this role.Willingness to Travel:
Willingness (20%) for occasional business trips to our practice locations.Experience & Ownership:
At least 4 years of practical experience in IT system administration, infrastructure engineering, or a comparable hybrid role. Demonstrable ability to independently manage infrastructure projects from planning through implementation to support.Required Technical Skills:
Network: Solid foundations (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, Firewalls, WLAN configuration) as well as practical experience in connecting locations/branches.
Cloud: Hands-on experience with at least one common cloud provider (e.g., AWS, DigitalOcean).
Security: Practical experience with cloud security and access management (IAM, Secrets Management, Audit Fundamentals).
Core Engineering Practices:
Experience with on-call duties (On-Call) and Incident Response, as well as a strong instinct for troubleshooting across physical and cloud systems.
We know that one cannot always meet all criteria. Nevertheless, we would be happy to hear from you if you think you are exactly the right person for the role!
Then you are exactly right with us!
We have set ourselves the goal of eliminating barriers and discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities through our transparent hiring process. We are open to all groups of people regardless of age, skin color, national origin, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, marital status, or other characteristics.
