Job description
The Albert Schweitzer Foundation for our World seeks
IT Specialist:in Software & Platform Engineering (m/f/d)
starting as soon as possible in Berlin (high home office share possible) with 35 hours per week (full-time) in permanent employment.
Our vision is a world where no animal suffers for the production of food. Our mission is: Together to raise animal welfare standards and reduce the consumption of animal products. We work in the areas of economy, law, and politics. At all levels, we take practical steps with the respective actors towards a respectful treatment of animals and make it easier for perceived opponents to abandon previous patterns of behavior.
As an IT Specialist:in Software & Platform Engineering, you will become part of our IT team, which currently consists of two people. This team ensures that our work can have its maximum impact through the smooth, efficient, and secure operation of IT infrastructure and online presences.
This is what you achieve with us
You lay the technical foundation on which the entire work of the Albert Schweitzer Foundation for our World is built, and ensure that our systems remain reliable, secure, and future-proof.
As an IT Specialist:in Software & Platform Engineering, you are responsible for the conception, planning, and implementation of the further development of our IT infrastructure and application landscape: You manage our hosting infrastructure in the cloud and continuously develop it, ensure that central systems such as CRM, donation platform, websites, campaigns, and mailing infrastructure exchange data smoothly with each other, and also develop individual software solutions for this.
Specifically, this means
You manage, develop, and integrate both our existing and newly introduced IT systems, as well as our DevOps platform, for example GitHub and AWS.
You conceive, implement, document, and roll out new IT projects & solutions.
You are in close exchange with colleagues in the IT team and in other departments and advise on functional and non-functional requirements, such as IT security or usability.
You support and advise the departments in the conception and implementation of IT solutions – from assessing technical feasibility and effort to technical implementation to selecting suitable off-the-shelf components.
Your profile
You have at least five years of professional experience in software development as well as in operating modern application and platform infrastructures (e.g., Cloud/PaaS, CI/CD, integrations).
You have outstanding experience in the field of DevOps and IT infrastructure.
You have very good knowledge in software development (preferably PHP/Laravel) and in integrating applications via REST or GraphQL APIs.
For the development of web applications, you master HTML, (S)CSS, and Javascript/Typescript and also have experience in customizing PHP-based CMS systems such as Kirby and Statamic.
You are able to plan, execute, and complete an IT project from beginning to end.
You work together with functional stakeholders, from requirements analysis through iterative checkpoints to rollout.
You use AI systems to support your own work and can help others use AI meaningfully for their goals.
Good knowledge in the automation of workflows is required, with AI tooling, low-code/no-code platforms, or classically via scripting.
You have good knowledge of IT security and data protection.
You are familiar with identity management (IAM) via OAuth or SAML.
You are team-oriented and communicative, work service-oriented, and independently.
With your outstanding problem-solving skills, you confidently tackle complex technical challenges.
Even when things get stressful, for example, because a deadline is approaching, you remain focused.
You speak German and English at a C1 level (fluent).
You enjoy working with others – even if not everyone is in the same location.
You identify with our vision, mission, and culture.
What we offer you
A permanent full-time position on a 35-hour basis: As part of the IT team, you directly contribute to social change and improve animal welfare.
Home office opportunities: You live in Berlin or the surrounding area and work with flexible, family-friendly working hours in a hybrid model (home office & office).
Professional team: Collegial, open exchange in a motivated team.
Dog-friendly offices including "dog-free" areas for allergy sufferers, as well as ergonomic workplaces.
Attractive remuneration: Permanent, annual salary between 48,940.20 and 59,243.40 Euros (experience-based) + bonus payments.
Benefits: Cafeteria model (financial advantages, Deutschlandticket or additional vacation days), subsidies for health services (e.g., B12 + D blood tests) and company pension scheme.
Further training: Active promotion of further education and training.
Have we sparked your interest?
Then send us your application by October 31, 2026 via the application button. We want to know what motivates you to work at the Albert Schweitzer Foundation, why you are the best person for this role, and when you could start with us.
Even if you don't meet all the criteria, we encourage you to apply – we are looking for a trainable and motivated person who fits into our team.
We are convinced that diverse perspectives can improve decisions and therefore expressly welcome applications from people of different backgrounds.
